Question on Privacy Glass/Rear Window

I never noticed it until a friend mentioned it the other day... .



My 04. 5 dually four door has factory option privacy glass but only the two rear side windows are tinted. The rear window is as clear as the windshield.



Is this right, or did the factory forget something? When I take it in for the mileage reflash, I'm going to take a peek at some of the other trucks on the lot.



Every other vehicle I have owned with "privacy glass" has included the rear window.

I think you have to get the sliding rear window to get tint. Mine's tinted.

My 2 sides and rear slider are tinted also Oo.

I'll check later to be sure but I believe my (non sliding but heated) rear window has the tint as well as the 2 rear door ones.

Mine was also clear. My 03 had a slider and it was tinted. I remedied the situation by purchasing a window canvas, looks tinted from out and in. From outside you see a picture from inside you see nothing, these are available with hundreds of images. Cost $100. 00 installed

I think you need to order the slider to get the rear window tint. That's stupid IMHO. I don't like the sliders because you can't operate them from the front seat in a quad cab anyway, and they make it easier to break into the truck.

My 04 w/o a slider is tinted. I believe it is factory tint and not a dealer added option.

My slider is tinted. The new sliding rear windows are pretty stout. I think you would have to break glass to get in through it, because the clip requires two fingers to overcome the spring inside it.

From mid-04 and on , the only way you get a tinted back glass was to purchase an upgrade, But in 03 and early 04, the glass was tinted as long as you got an SLT or above,



Darn those bean counters... That move let DC use the same back glass(non-defrost,and non-slider) for a ST and an SLT

My non-slider was tinted from the factory with the defroster option in the glass as well. I also had it after market tinted even darker for the morons who do not know enough to turn off their brights when they're right behind you.

I screwed up on this too. After I ordered I found out that you have to order the slider or rear defroster to get the tint. I had the dealer tint the back and front side windows with that stick on stuff which I know can be a disaster, but no problems so far.

My non-slider was not tinted either. It Looked terrible with the two rear door windows tinted. $40. 00 at a pro tint shop fixed it fine. IMO it should have came this way.

Heres the scoop, if you ordered the slider (at least on the Laramie and I believe SLT's), it comes tinted, if you order without the slider, but with the rear window defrost, it also comes tinted. No defrost, no tint.

I ordered an 03 slt Quad cab, leather etc, and asked the salesman if I needed to specify tinted back glass (no slider). He said " They all come with a tinted rear window, since the rear door windows are tinted" Well, when my truck came in (July, 03) it had a plain non tinted window. I was disappointed, but have learned to live with it.

That pretty much clears it up, no slider, no defroster,... . no rear tint!



I agree with LLLytle. I think I'll get the US flag stick-on that I see on other trucks.
