I'm buying a 2006 CTD Mega Cab this week. It has a Smarty installed. The owner is keeping it and taking it off. Question:

Will the truck then be reset to the correct stock tune, or is there value in my taking it to a dealer to have the latest stock flash uploaded? The rest of the truck is stock.

Would that be covered under warranty, getting a flash update on request?

Anything else I should be aware of associated with the removal of the Smarty?

Thanks.

By next week I'll be posting with a new sig block describing my new-to-me 06 Mega 4x4 with 6-speed manual.

'07 tire correction remains after Smarty.

On my '07,even after I remove Smarty my tire correction remains as verified by GPS. I haven't tried my Smarty on another vehicle to see if it's truly removed and not still partially vin-locked. You might just make sure he has restored your 31. 40" stock tire setting. I think only the '06-'07's do this. An '06 owner might comment on this. Best of luck with the new truck. Mine's been great!

If the Smarty is still vin locked you will see # signs on the display.

like # SMARTY #

I've heard about the tire size adjustment staying before on the 06/07 trucks

What warrenty?

If your dealer finds out that any box, chip, or progamer was used on your truck the manufacturors warrenty is null and void. Good Luck.

Given the $ incentive I bet Dodge can and may have already set up their system to determine if any unauthorized changes have been downloaded. I'm not a programer but it seems it would be simple to add a counter or date stamp to ferrit out these program changes. With the resorces they have and dollar exposure under warrentees, I would not want to assume that the smarty is invisable.

On '06 & '07, leaving altered tire size table intact upon removing SMARTY could very well be part of a tell tale signature application.

For those of us willing to accept loss of waranty due to using downloader programs, doesn't matter.

Somewhere down the road, maybe even now with 6. 7's and/or after next emmissons tier of 2010, that detector application might be able to report you at the next vehicle emmissons test.

I don't believe I'll ever let MoCo plug into my trucks and "update" my ECM's, thereby possibly installing a detector application that I'm hoping my two trucks are just old enough to not have.

Be nice if some SMARTY guru's could add to this.

Dodge detective.

There's a Dodge tech who posts regularly on here. I'm sure he'll give us the heads up if anything comes up in the detection dept.

if you set it back to factory tire size manually, there will be zero evidence

That's the problem, forgetting.
To add to this, What about a truck that has X update from the factory but you buy an updated (newer) smarty with XX update because in the mean time chrysler releases some new updates.

Now you take your truck to the dealership to have warranty work done and they hook up their scan tool and see XX update when your truck shows it's never been in for XX update and should still have X update.

See my point.

My tire size corrections would remain after returning the ECM to stock on both my 03, and my 07.

However, I found that was not the case on an SO 03, and one 04. 5 truck. They would both return to factory default.

I am also interested in knowing if, when the Smarty is removed and the stock software is installed, I will lose any dealer flashes, ie, tire size correction, SB flash, fast idle flash, etc. Can anyone verify this? I want to know prior to purchase. (I have an 04. 5 2500)

Thanks, Kevin
