Question on the dealer installed u connect

Has anyone had the u connect installed at the dealer and had problems with it . I just bought a 08 and dealer didnt order it when they ordered truck but said they would install it for me at dealer . Just want to know if there is problem's with this install or should I pull the plug on it ?

Dealer was going to install U-connect option for me until enough questions revealed it wasn't "the factory" U-connect hardware and installed same as factory would, but rather a cobble together of parts from local car stero shop and sort of pasted into vehicle where they could find room and get hook-ups. Decided I could do better by myself at some later time.

I'm sure if you have the dealer install it, you would pay 3 times as much for it and never get as good of an installation.

There are 2 differant "factory" u-connect units. one uses the mirror for all control and plays thru the factory speakers. The 2nd is designed for "After Factory" installation and uses seperate control head and speaker. If they are going to get the mirror, wiring harness, and factory contol unit (by Johnson Systems I think) and install it for free then go ahead. If the second unit is what they plan to install and charge you for it, you can buy it on E-bay and install it yourself cheaper. I have the 2nd and it works fine, but I wish it had been included. Thank you for the reply but what i am up against is it was ordered and I was charged for it $240. 00 but dealer said they could just do a install at dealer and it would work fine I thought that I had heard on here that the dealer installed one doesn't really work that well and to me my truck is fine without it . also while I am writeing this on factory installed alarm if you lock door with alarm on and window down if you reach in and unlock it by hand alarm should go off correct? my paper work says it has alarm but it does not go off if I try that ? but yet dealer says o yes you have alarm ?
