Question on the factory aluminum diff cover on the 11.5 AAM

Dumb question. Is the oil capacity more in the aluminum diff cover on the factory model? Thinking about just buying a AAM cover. Had issues with the last couple diff covers.

Just looking to help cool it. Figure if its good enough for 38K GCVWR ,it should be for my 25K GCVWR.

I have a MagHytec cover sitting on the shelf that was on my 11 HO Dually that's in good condition. Its the Geno's model with fluid level sight glass. I would depart with for a fair $. That for sure adds capacity.

I was going to go back to Mag-hytec, but the last one I had, on the same truck your old transmission pan is on, continually seeped oil from what looked like in between the site glass and the steel plug . then I tried the other cheaper brand from Geno's and it seeped oil also from the fill hole, no mater how tight it was or amount of thread tape.
Not a leak per say, but just enough to draw dirt back to the seepage and show a minute amount of oil had managed to come out, to about 4" from the fill hole.

So this time I'll try the factory pan.. Gotta dress her up just a bit.. One thing I will not need for sure is a transmission pan. The AISIN has yet to get over 180, and that was pushing her as hard as I could up camp Verde hill, 6% passing vehicles until i got to 70mph, then I backed off. That was with the 40 RV in tow loaded. So I was every bit of 25K+ This 900 Ft lb torque engine is wild !

I have the Non-Geno's Mag-Hytec diff cover on both of my axles, since Aug-09 and they have not leaked at all. I would not hesitate in buying the Mag-Hytec cover again. I like the dipstick in the covers an use them all of the time to check oil level to see if I am picking up a lot of fuzzy debris on the magnet. In 99,000 miles I have clean off a little but nothing alarming.

I've had Mag hytec's on 4 of my trucks and all were good except the sight glass one...Thought I'd try something different..lol

I had that AAM aluminum cover, held about 4 quarts. No difference in capacity that I'm aware of.

The stock aluminum cover may help cooling the diff fluid, but does not add strength, drain plug, dipstick, or capacity. I have run Mag Hytec covers since the mid 90s. If you are worried about cooling, get them to make you one and not powder coat it. It will run a few degrees cooler.

Just doing my typical "dress up" and if I get a little mechanical edge by helping keep fluids cooler, all the better. I had Mag Hytecs on all but my last truck, then tried a different brand. Just got the stock aluminum cover yesterday. Very heavy and well made. I think well worth $90 bucks.
