Ok, so if a mortal kills an immortal, does the mortal get the Quickening and become immortal?

Just a topic of discussion at our house tonite

Don't you remember? They're not immortal. They're aliens! So I don't think anything would happen from killing an alien.

I remember an episode in the series when Fitz( Roger Daltry ) was going to be beheaded and said his quickening would be wasted if not done by an imortal. As usual, he was saved at the last moment but whacked in a later episode.
