A friend of mine has a 96 turbo diesel. And he says that the idle has gone down from around 800 rpm to around 300 or 400. Do they have the 3cly cut out on these models? I get a flash codes of 34,76,and i know the 55 code. If anyone can help out ,thank you. :D Rick M

Cold weather makes mine change drastically.

Mine can idle as low as 250 rpm when really cold but idles around 750 or so when warm.

Has he had this trouble in the winter before, or just now? Or is the problem not related to cold starts?

Also, the idle is mechanical on his truck.

My '97 over the years dropped down to 500 rpm and was slow to start and would die sometimes if I let off the accelerator too quickly. About a year ago, I reset it to 750 rpm in gear (auto trans) and the air conditioner on. In park it is around 900. Starts instantly and doesn't die. Some of the guys on this forum know those codes. If you search this forum, you can find lots of posts on adjusting the idle, and probably what the codes are.

I would find them first.

Wish I knew more, Tom

Here is a decent pic of the idle screw at the back of the pump. As long as there are no other issues, a 10mm wrench should take care of your low idle speed. Hope this helps,

Dave

Thank you everyone!!!!!! He said that it does this in the summer time also. But will tell him to adjust the idle. Thanks again everyone. Rick M Oo.
