Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Questions about a 12er!!

One of my friends has a 12 v that has a brand new trans with a few upgrades in it, diy intake ,and i believe exhaust. It will only tach about 2500 rpm. doesnt smoke at all and builds very little boost (around 10-13 psi). Does anyone know what can be done to get more power out of this truck, maybe make it fun to drive!! thanks in advance! SLADE. :-laf

Oh Yeah, There's lots that can be done and lots of threads that will tell you what to do and how to do it. It's a slippery slope (read $$$) though, but worth it. The trans and guages are probably the first thing to address, then a plate and boost elbow and gsk. Then... ... ? Good luck and enjoy. Jim

That sounds like the AFC is not working. Check the little plastic hoses to the top of the rear of the injection pump. There may be just one from the intake manifold or a T fitting with a couple of hoses to it. You need boost to the AFC for it to work. If it does not work then fueling won't increase as boost increases. The low fueling means that boost will not build up anymore than what you have.

On the diesels you must verify fuel supply is suficient to the injection pump first. Then start testing the other systems that come into play. You don't mention the egt's that will put you on the right track much quicker.
