How do you get smoke with EDGE COMP

Anyone running a Southbend double disk pulling clutch in a 6spd?? Talked to Woody at southbend and he didnt recommend this clutch for a daily driver. He said it was hard on the pickup and was noisy. Need something that i can pull with but is good for a daily driver. I tend to pull up to 50K in the spring, Smoked my Con FE :{ ... ... Any suggestions or comments??

If you can give me a week or so I can give ya a report on my double disk... I picked it up last weekend, waiting on the inputshaft though. I also smoked (well... exploded) my CON FE, I replaced it with a 3600lb 12cb double disk. Hopefully this one will put up with my abuse!

I've had the 3850 12CB in since November, haven't had a chance to pull on it yet because the only pull I went to that I wanted to compete wouldn't let me w/o a kill switch.

It's fine for a daily driver, I know quite a few people who have them with no complaints. Pedal pressure it a little stiffer that's about all. Yeah it is noisy when the pedal is depressed, but all dual's are.

Get the 3850 with your choice of Ceramic or Feramic pucks. I would advise at least 12 Pucks per face on each disk (total 48).

The clutches are fine for the street. You will re-learn to drive with the new Dual Disk.

I have about 4 hooks on my updated SBC Dual Disk unit.

They are good clutches and PETER TAKES CARE OF HIS CUSTOMERS!! FAST!!

Is the dual disk ok to slip quite a bit when starting out, because i will be sled pulling with it? Need something that i can get into higher gears to sled pull with because there is a duramax that is doin a number on the local truck pulls, and well that just cant be happening! :D Do you recommend ceramic or feramic? Thanks in advance. P. S. How did southbend treat you when you exploded your clutch?? Havent had so good of luck with mine and i havent had my truck for 2 weeks now. Not going to be happy if i dont get a good deal on the new clutch...

I typed a big long reply, but my POS computer crashed half way through. .

Anyways, I have a 3600lb SB DD. If you wanna make the short drive down to Des Moines (Grimes actually), you can take my truck for a spin and see what you think.

As mentioned call and talk to Peter and he will take care of you! Coming up on 2 years no sled pulling but truck has grossed over 30k and clutch has been in since 330rwhp and is still happy at just over 600rwhp. Thanks again Peter! Jeff

Had a Con FE, they said that i got the clutch up to about 1500 degrees, i dont know how tho... . anyway i havent heard back from them yet on what there gonna do... Mr. Koth, that sounds like a plan PM and we'll figure something out. THANKS!

Got the 4200 lb ferramic in my daily driver and no complaints here. It's grabby and the pedal is stiff, but not so bad that I wouldn't want to drive it every day.

I dont really know for sure how it happened. It never seemed to feel right from day one, but it totally went out after pulling about 30K of liquid fertilizer. Never slipped, always right off the clutch pedal, never engaged it if rpms were over 1100... . just enough to get it moving. My factory clutch took way more abuse than the Con FE. Really surprising

JKaltenheuser, sounds identical to what happened with my FE... Peter took care of me though on the price of my double disk... Call the shop though, as you probably won't get a reply to an email.

yes they slip fine. i have the 12CP model and it daily drives just fine. a bit more pedal pressure is all i can tell. i can back a 10K trailer with no problems and do 3rd gear launches @ 3200 RPMS on the drag strip.

I have a 5spd truck too. dont know if that makes any diff.

Ended up goin with the 3850 Ceramic. wont be here till wednesday tho :{ gonna have to miss out on the pulls in Adel tomorrow night :{ Thanks For your generosity Peter!

Just remember...

You have to pull the clutch every once in a while to make it behave properly.

They like to get a little grabby after a while if they don't get pulled.

Did he tell you that you'd be getting an input shaft on Wednesday too? I've been waiting 2 weeks now for mine, truck's been down for 3, if you are getting your new shaft with your clutch on Wednesday, hopefully that's good news on my end too.

From the way i understand it, it should be everything... Im gonna be HOT if i have to wait any longer. Its been a month already, and feels like a year! If i miss the last pull of the year im gonna :{ . Guess we'll find out next week  I'll keep ya informed.
