I was searching for D80s the other day.

I'm wondering, it there a kit to make the drum brake ones disc brake?

I can find drum D80s for ~$600-700 in the yards. But the disc ones are ~$1100-1200.

Does the D80 use the same yoke as the D70, or would I need to get the driveshaft built to accept something else?

I'm just looking for parts to beef up the truck for sled pulling. I am SO afraid of busting the D70, even with not all that must power.

I'll probably take the D70 and put it under my Jeep. Sell the Detroit locker and spool it.

I just bought a disc brake 80 for 1100 that is about half of some I found. The driveshaft will have to be shortened to work with the 80 they use the same u-joint size though but if sled pulling I would put 1480 series yoke on the 80 and do the same to the end of the driveline while its being shortened. factory is 1410 series. There are kits available to swap drums to discs but you would be about the same money to just buy a disc 80.

Ok, well at least I know that $1100-1200 price isn't all that nuts.

I don't plan on turning the truck into a pulling machine, though I'd like to pull in the 5 or 6 pulls they have a season around here.
