Questions About The Smarty

With an almost stock 03 with exhaust being the only performance mod. I have the Smarty set on 5 but the truck is missing that low end torque. Is there another setting that I can use to get more torque. I'm thinking my old 97 had alot more low end with the Banks kit on it and I liked that. Also I seen on another post that there is a book Smarty For Dummies, is that for real?? Last question I was thinking that with the Smarty that you could set the idle up using the crusie control, How?

Even though we have different trucks I will still offer my opinion. I also use sw 5 about 95 percent of the time and I have no other engine mods at the moment other than an aftermarket exhaust. This offers quite the boost in low end torque for me there is literally night and day difference compared to stock. Im wondering if there could be an underlying problem. Have you checked for any codes? Or maybe you have a small boost leak somewhere? I would double check all your plumbing and clamps on both sides of your intercooler. Are you showing any abnormal readings on your egt gauge? Unusually high temps would be a red flag something is amiss.

As for setting the idle with cruise control functions, Ive never heard that one before. Im sure others will chime in with 3rd gens that have more relateable experience.

I don't actually own a smarty, but my understanding is that you just need to adjust your torque management. If you happened to select all of the default settings for level 5, you will just need to go back through the menu again. Refer to your smarty user guide page 10:

5. Adjusting optional parameters

Before the programming, Smarty proposes the adjustment of the optional parameters.

To enter this function, press 2 in the Options menu:

The list of optional parameter varies according to the installed software.

For each parameter, the current option status is shown on the first line of the display. With Smarty

numeric keyboard, the optional parameters can be adjusted.



Then from page 11:

Torque

The Torque selection can be programmed 1 (stock), 2 (mild), 3 (moderate) or 4 (wild). To use the

default torque setting for the current CaTCHER level, press 0.



This is my take on the problem. If I mis-understood, please clarify the question for me.

Thats a good write up. this is all true but even at default on sw 5 there should be a noticeable gain in bottom end power. The fact that there isnt makes me think there could be a problem unrelated to the smarty.

If you have a Smarty Sr, change the Tq management to a higher number. It should be on 2 by default but you need to change the settings to see how it reacts. The CR's have a lot more safeties on them than a mechanical pump that has been tweaked so you have to manipulate the same things electronically.
