Has anyone used the Walker Airsep? If so, what do you think?

How expensive is it? Is it cost effective to replace the filter every 35,000 miles?

Is it worth it?

Thanks,

Mike

I have a buddy that just installed one a couple of days ago... says it looks good, seems to work good. Not too fond on having to take it apart to change the filter and said there was an increase in the noise he could hear... . Do a search for BatMan01 and PM him about it...

It is if you're driving on extremely steep slopes where the oil pukes out the blowby often, otherwise probably not. Friend who cruises powerline roads in his company provided CTD had to have one as he was losing a over a gallon of oil a day. DC will also fix the oil puke free under warranty if you are having a problem, otherwise it's over $1000. Think the Airsep is around $800.

The AirSep for our trucks is only around $400, the marine version that everyone thinks they need is $800. I will try to get some pics and the price here in the next week or so...

Walker AirSep

As JR2 has said I had this system installed last week and it is a very clean install and seems to be well engineered. The only problem I encountered was with my AFE filter. The kit comes with a rigid plastic tube. To get everything to fit I could only use one mounting screw to mount the AFE. Everything seems to stay in place very well.

The good Points are:

Provides better crankcase ventalation by drawing air out and recirulating it back through the inlet side of the turbo.

No more bottle and no more oil on the ground. This is the biggest advantage to me. The 03's have a closed system so they do not need a system like this.

Downside:

Price. I paid a little over $300. 00 delivered to my door.

The instructions state that the filter needs to be replaced at 50K miles. I called and asked about this and how much this is going to cost and they are going to answer me tomorrow. I will post there answers.

The noise JR2 mentioned seems to be coming from the air going through the rigid air tube I mentioned above. When I first started the engine up after the installation it was very noticable. I could hear it a little at lower RPMs while driving. After a week I do not notice it anymore.

Once I find out the replacement cost of the filters I will post it and then you can make your own decision on whether or not this kit is worth it to you. For the record, yes I am happy with the kit. It does exactly what the manufacture claims (researched the Web site and made several calls to Walker asking questions). I would buy this kit again.

Walker AirSep Response

I just talk to Walker and the filter replacement price is $69. 00. They recommend replacing every 50k.

I like the AirSep overall, but the only thing I don't like is that when you're pushing high boost, it like to vent a little bit of oil out of the safety valve on the new oil cap they provide. I think it's just the oil that gets splashed on the underside of the cap and gets blown out from there.

For those with the Airsep system, can you post a pic or description of how the oil is returned to the crankcase via the turbo oil drain line?

In the latest Fourwheeler magazine there's an article on the Baja Bomber in which they install a Scotty 2 and an Airsep on a CTD. It has quite a few pics (detailed?) of the installation.

The AirSep kit comes with a new oil return for the turbo (where it goes into the block). The new part is essentially the same as the old oil return except that it has a 1/4" NPT bung welded onto the oil return that you screw a check valve into, and that's where the AirSep returns it's oil. The advantage to having that already installed when you install a bypass filter is that you can use a T-fitting and run the oil return from the bypass there too. :)

That's what I thought after seeing the article in Four Wheeler. I'm going to see if they'll sell me just the replacement oil return so I can use it for my bypass filter! :)

Could try the fleetguard fix for the bottle also. Their # CV50115, looks much simpler and doesn't interfere with oil filter. Around 2. 5 bills, researching for myself on this issue also.

My 03 has a draft tube. . I was just searching the threads and saw this.

If 2nd gen owners are having problems then maybe a retrofit to the Fleetguard breather used on top of the 3rd gens valve cover would be much cheaper.
