Hello friends,

I have a customer for my 01 and am looking at 03's. I have found a 03 H O 6 speed w 51k miles. The current owner/dealer bought it at auction. There are not any maintenance records available for the truck. It is a fully decked out 4X4 Laramie that i can get for under 30k. The question is should I? 51K is a lot for a year and i will only put around 17k per year on it. I understand that all fluids will have to be replaced (synthetics) and mega maintenance is required. That will be the fun part. I enjoy getting close with my truck  The wife is 9 months pregnant ya know. Any recommendation's what to look at before i pay the money?

does anyone know how to get the dealer maintenance info on a truck.

All questions/comments are appreciated.

thanks

Considering the cummins motor is good for 300k miles, I wouldn't be worried about 51k. Especially if it's a stock truck. Brakes and fluids etc. . would be only possible concern. It's all about the deal. The way I look at it is if a used truck with 30k on it would be $30-$35k and you could get this one with 51k for say $25-$30 then 20k miles isn't worth $5k-$10k. It's all about the deal.

the miles wouldn't bother me a bit...

But proper depreciation would. That's not enough off sticker for the miles.

Just for kicks I checked what my truck was worth on trade-in an kbb.com. FOr my truck that stickered at $38870, that now has 34,500 miles was only worth $24,000 on trade:--)

Dan,

I am about to sell the wifes Dually to dealer on a trade. They will only give 26500 for it. That is with 26000 miles on it. They also say that the Manual transmission is a bad thing. What ever you do go after it for cheap. My Red 4X4 dually was only 34000 at Yucca Valley Dodge. They have a real nice used (DC Paint Buyback) 4x4 short bed QC just like Steves black one. Cheap Cheap Cheap. Somewhere in the 28's. I wish my truck was paid for. I would jump on this one... ... Perfect for that suspension system you want. Can you say GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!

The price is way too high for that mileage. My loaded '03 Laramie stickered at $43,080, and after discounts and reabtes was $35,200 brand new right off the truck. I would think $25,000 would be more in line with it's true value.

And when you trade, the dealer will ALWAYS find something "bad" about your vehicle - nobody wants a manual if you have a manual, nobody wants an auto if you have an auto.

Eggzacktly what they said. Too high. Be sure you get FULL depreciation for those miles.

Yep, miles don't hurt the Cummins, but they KILL the value of the Dodge it's in.

The best money is saved UP FRONT, not after nine years of driving it--that's just gravy.

But then I'm sure you're only two steps from the nuthouse for selling your 01. :D

Thanks for the imput guys,

the truck was on E-bay and the top bid was 23,500 It didnot make the reserve. I called the dealer and he said the reserve was 30K. I didn't believe him but he doesn't now it yet. as i am 2-3 weeks from my funds on my 01. The reason i am selling it is that my friend came into some cash and i am getting 32k for it. :D I think that makes me 3-4 steps away don't you think Wade:p I am more concerned that the truck is used to being worked hard and put away wet. and now will be not worked much at all. ( 2-3k trailer max. ) Hopefully i can work these guy just enough to buy enough time to get the cash together to make a play on this one. If not i will have the cash to make a play on another one.

Keep the comments coming and thanks to all.

Greg

I knew you shouldn't have gotten the dually. The T-rex has your name written all over it.

Best regards
