Are you guys happy with the stock pulling power or are you missing the "bomb induced power" you used to have?

Looking for comparison of:

1. Smoke

2. Turbo lag, or driveability

3. EGT's

4. MPG

5. G56 vs. NV5600

Basically are you happier now or do you still need to "bomb"?

Thanks... ... ... ..... Jim

probably bomb

Jim... Guess you could say that is a subjective question... power needs vary a lot. Speaking for myself, having had two bombed 2nd gens and now a stock 3rd, I would say the probability to bomb again is good. Even though stock to stock is no comparison, 3rd gens have more, there is probably still a desire to get a 'little more' out of the Cummins' than comes stock. Of course the danger exists that once you start down that road... ... you may not stop, after all... it is fun!!

If comparing stock vehicles no comparison. The 3rd Gen is better than my old 12V. When I sold my 12V it had a grounded plate and 3kGSK. The 12V had more power than 06' currently does. I will eventually add some power to my 06'. No gauges currently on 06'. My 06' isn't broke in yet. Only averaging about 16mpg. Don't have enough seat time with a NV5600 to give an opinion. The G56 is tight when compared to my old NV4500.

I had a bombed second Gen then went to a stock 05 600 and heres my take.

More smoke on the 600

much less turbo lag

MPG went down with the 600 for some reason

pulling power has a much smoother delivery

I'm happy with the power of my 3rd gen. All I've done is the Rokktech sensor which helped the bottom end. Not as much power as my 2nd gen, but still better than stock 2nd gen. I'm waiting for the smarty for the 3rd gens to come out & may go that route because it's just not right to stay stock for ever.

Thanks for the info, I was curious if I sold my 99 and bought an 06, if I could keep from bombing.

I guess what I mean is, I would like to enjoy my truck more and tinker with it less.

I test drove an 06 and it seemed really nice, but that was empty. I'm just not convinced I'd be better off in a new truck.

I had an 02 with 275's and COMP, and that was OK, but I was not wanting to do much more. But then because the 3rd gen is SOOOOOO easy BOMB, I just had to!

1) Smoke is less for a given HP

2) HPCR cummins seem to spool big turbos easier, like my SP66 - I would never go smaller

3)EGT's - I have no idea - never put a turbo on my 02 truck

4)MPG - better on the my 3rd gen, because of easy adjust boxes IMO. I still knock down 18-21 most of the time. And I still hot foot alot :-laf

5) I like my NV4500 - less shifting ;)

I am happier, Do I need to BOMB more? - no, I honestly think I am done... .

for now

RIGHT... I have never heard anyone say that before; do you know how many times I have said this exact statement :-laf

Sure Tom, sure. Tinkering with them is half the fun of owning one. They respond so well to improvements. You'll be happy with the 06 for a while, but the bug will bite again.
