Questions on Mag-Hytec trans pan install

I'll be installing my new DD pan on Saturday and have a couple questions.



1. Some have mentioned problems getting the drain plug loose when changing fluids when the next mileage interval comes up. Would anyone recommend using a small amount of Anti-seize on the plug?



2. Can you use the reusable gasket that comes with the standard 48re pan on the Hytec pan? It seems much better than the fiber gasket the comes with the Hytec pan.

1. I've never had any problems getting the plug out, just dont over tighten it. I believe the tq spec. is 30inchlbs (I think, should be in the maghytec literature)



2. Yup the reusable mopar gasket works great with the maghytec pan. I've used that combination with 3 pans on 2 trucks with no problems.

Thanks Zach, that's what I wanted to hear. I didn't have an inch-lb torque wrench so I splurged a got one of the better Craftsman series units on sale today at lunch so I'll make sure I set it to 30 inch lb's like the you and the instructions say.

Ditto on the gasket.



Another thing: don't tighten the drain plug when it's hot or you won't be able to get it loose unless it's the same temp.

The Mag-hytec's are so well made. Just snug up the drain plug--30 inch-pounds is not much. The guys who have problems getting it off (including me the first time) try to get it to about 30 FOOT-pounds!!

Thanks guys. "Got er done" this weekend and everything worked out great. I put the truck in the middle of the garage the night before so I could work on it while it was nice and cool in the morning, although that's a relative term in Phoenix since it was 110 degrees out by 11:00am! I will say that the DD pan just looks like it fits the truck better and the build quality is very impressive. Re-used the gasket and no leaks... also put the temp sender in and everything is ready for my gauge hook-up now.



I was suprised at level of filing's the magnetic washer collected over 22k miles in the stock pan, which were almost 1/4 inch thick.

My pan came with the drain plug installed so I didn't check it for tightness... big mistake!!!!!!

When I went to service the trans I broke an allen socket off in the plug and cork screwed another. Finally had to drain the pan down via the temp probe plug and then carefully drain the remainder of the fluid by droping the pan. Made a helluva mess!

I tried everything short of dynamite to get the drain plug out, no joy!

Now I am ready to service the trans again and have a spare plug ( compliments of BPine ). That sucker is coming out of there this time!!!
