I recently bought a 04. 5 Dodge 2500 heavy duty 4x4 5. 9L CTD. I'm looking to upgrade the intake and the exhaust. Any ideas on which way to go. Also the maintnenance log book that came with the truck has tickets ripped out of both plan A and B. So I'm not sure on which plan to follow. So if you have any ideas on mods and maintenance practices please let me know.

If you don't plan to add fuel via a downloader, injectors or power box, changing exhaust and intake isn't going to do much but lighten your wallet.

Your truck alread has a 4" exhaust system. I think by far the best mod here is the muffler elimination kit from Geno's garage. Cheap effective, sounds great.

On the intake side, my experience is that improved flow through an aftermarket intake horn is much more effective than the various cold air intake systems and in many cases less expensive. If you do the CAI be sure you get one with factory spec filtration.

When I owned these trucks for business, and they towed hard everyday I did oil changes every 5k with Rotella and fuel filters every 10k, air filters as needed but usually every 15k. I switched the diffs and t-case to Amsoil early on and went 50k intervals. These were automatics and had filters and flushes every 30k. I never lost a days work due to these trucks. Now on a much lighter duty cycle I change oil and fuel filter at 10k intervals. With a cleanable air filter I do that every 20k. The diffs t-case and manual trans are on Amsoil and will be serviced every 50k.

Keep in mind, there are a hundred different opinions on this, most of them work fine as the trucks are extremely durable.

I never modded one before my current truck. I must say, once you do it, there is no going back. Wtih just some airflow improvements and my box set on 60hp 90% of the time, this truck is a monster, I love it. The improvement is night and day. I highly recomend some gauges and light modding. Reliability stays and your smile grows:D

Enjoy the new truck.
