I have a few questions for those that already have Gen3 trucks.



1. Does the longbox version still have a two peice drive shatf?



2. Is there a significant ride difference between long and short box pickups?



3. Is there a significant difference in turning radius? Would I still be able to get through most drive throughs etc... ?



4. Any opinions one way or the other would be appreciated. TIA

My long box quad cab has a two piece driveline. I believe a LB standard cab is one piece but correct me if I'm wrong.



The turning radius of my 03 LB QC is very close to that of my 96 LB QC. Despite the 4 doors, they aren't much longer.



I test drove a QC with a short box and it turned noticeably sharper but I didn't notice a diffrence in the ride.

My '02 was regular cab, long bed, and it was a one piece shaft. When I get my new truck, I'll let you know if a QC long bed is two-piece. I'm pretty sure it is though.

2. Don't know, I have only owned long beds (though my '04 dually rides as well empty as my '97 3/4T)



3. Turns a whole lot tighter than my old Ford crew cab long box SRW (but then it's 12" shorter wheelbase). I can get my dually through most drive thrus (though I try to avoid them). Sometimes you just gotta be daring. They say "If the mirrors fit, the truck will, too". Still have both mirrors!



4. I've always liked the extra box length. The SB's look too stubby to me. But that's just one man's opinion. It also depends on what you are going to do with it. I bought mine to haul big fifth wheels and I carry lots of 4x8 sheetgoods.

Yes to the two pce (at least in the QC). Can't comment on the ride and turning radius as I've never owned a 3rd gen shortbox. I am never short of opinions though! Not to bash the SWB guys as thier trucks have some advantages:

- easier to park and maneuver

- better off road



The advantages of a Long box truck;

- better handling with a heavy trailer

- box is more usefull for hauling stuff (i. e. dirt bikes, quads, construction materials, etc)

- don't need to consider a sliding 5er hitch

- much better choice if you ever decide to get a slide-in truck camper.

- all duallies are longboxes and everyone knows duallies look cool .





I guess for me, there is less chance of me regretting buying a long box v. s a short box if my needs change.

I have only owned one shortbed truck in my life, and believe me, it was the lasrt one. As others will telll you, after the first time you need to haul something oversized, or load something longer than 7ft. long, ie... anything for construction purposes(4x8 panels), you will scream for a long bed. I suffered for two long years with the truck before I finally traded it in for my first longbed and I have never looked back. Just my $. 02 worth.

I like the longbox better because I can have a toolbox in the bed and still have room for other stuff. With the QuadCab, it's long, you won't be able to jockey for the front row parking spots, and usually you will have to park into the next space. But then we all need more exercise, right?

I have both the long bed a dually. both are one tons to me the short bed rides a little rougher. Just my . 02 cents

This is my first long bed. I had an '02 1500 QC SB, that had a really good ride. The suspension is stiffer on my 2500, but it still rides like a caddy (as far as I'm concerned). Yes, you can get though most drive throughs. Because this is my first LB, it took me a few weeks to get used to parking it... at 20 ft bumper to bumper, ya just can't put it anywhere. Can haul a lot more in the bed, of course.....

Thanks everyone! You all helped me justify it to myself. I get tired of running out of room with just my daughters stuff going on a road trip and going camping etc...

Magnussens Auburn Dodge in CA. through their fleet dept. So far they have beat every price I have seen or been quoted over the phone.

Congrats on your order! I just wanted to put in my 2 cents, my truck is the roughest riding truck I've ever owned (it could be due to the so. ca. concrete roads also), the short box I test drove first was worse, and it turns like a battleship. Well I really don't know the turning radius of a battleship so I'll change it to guided missile destroyer (I have turned one of those!!)!!! The good thing about it is: 1) the wife doesn't like to drive it and 2) you don't even try to squeeze in close to the front of the store so should be less parking lot dings as you have to park way out in the boonies. John

My wife tries to grab the truck keys before I go so I have to take her minivan! Of course, she grew up double clutching and driving grain trucks before she was legal (them farm girls!)



As for parking lot dings, most people get scared pulling in beside those dually fenders so THEY park elsewhere!
