95' 2500 w/ DANA 60. 4850 LB front axle.

I need the castle nuts that hold the axle shaft to the hub bearing. I have an appointment tomorrow to get them changed and the nuts are ruined from some idiot chiseling them off. The weather has not cooperated for me to do it myself and my axle u-joint is about to wear thru the bearing cap and into the half shaft.

I would prefer an aftermarket source like napa, advanced, etc, rather than getting raped at the dealer.

I found them on Quad 4x4 site. Here is a link (Scroll down toward the middle of the page and look for the pic of 2 nuts/washers. It's just past the pics of all the Hubs):

Here is the PN and cost:

I have done business with Dan at Quad 4x4 and would not hesitate to do so again. He is a stickler for details and getting things done right and with good quality parts. His attention to detail on a kit I bought from him helped me get out of a jam on a large project. And the jam I got into was totally MY fault.

I have been to Dan's shop and met him. I can easily tell you he is a quality guy.

I was hoping for a more common source so I could get them tomorrow. I have a slot open with a local mechanic that did me the favor of squeezing me in for this repair. Being I am in Erie, PA, snow will come soon and the garages are packed. The problem is that there are no teeth left to grab the cotter pin. I do not want to ruin my new bearings if the nut decieds to loosen. Our local dodge dealers don;t stock anything at all. Are there any common stores I could get one, like a napa, carquest, etc... .

The only place I can think of that would have any of these nuts immediately on hand would be a salvage yard. Take your 3/4 drive hardened impact socket (less likely to break), extension (deep enough to get into a dually offset adapter if you find a dually breaker bar, cheater bar, dead blow hammer, and some penetrator fluid.

Other than that, maybe talk a friend out of his spindle nuts for a few days???:-laf:-laf

Other than that, Dan could next day them to you, but that would be salty from Roberts, MT to Erie, PA. May be cheaper to get the d***** to put in a hot order?

Good luck.

Check Carquest and get them to check the Dorman paper catalog. I don't know if they have them for sure, but I used to sell them for other trucks. If it's a corporate store and they are not in stock they can usually get them from the warehouse same day(if you get in early in the morning). You also might check industrial fastener shops like Fastenal, but you'll need to know the size and thread pitch. Sorry I can't help more.

Does anyone know the socket size? I will go to a junkyard. They have several 3500's and 2500's.

Thanks.
My 97 3500 4x4 axle nut was 1 11/16 inch. I used a 12 pt deep 3/4 in. impact socket I borrowed but have heard a 6 pt will work. The deep impact socket from NAPA cost $40. It's best to have 3/4" drive ratchet etc. I used my 3/4 '' drive 5 foot long 600 ft-lb torque wrench and my 3/4'' to 1/2'' adapter broke at 500 ft-lbs. I spent a couple of hours banging on that nut and fortunately did not pursue the chisel method too long.

I finally heated the nut with a MAPP gas torch and hit it (while still hot) with my 600 ft-lb air impact wrench and the nut finally broke loose. I had been hitting it with a can of PB Blaster or suitable penetrating oil for several hours. Some have not had the trouble I had... maybe you will be one of them

Good luck,

Dave
