About 300 miles into a 1200 mile unloaded road trip, the oil change reminder came on. Oil has about 3800 miles on it. About 600 more miles to go tomorrow before I get to Louisiana (to pick up the RV). Was hoping to change it there rather than try to do it on the way.

Does anyone think I'm risking the health of the engine by waiting until I get there to change it (and driving it about 1000 unloaded easy hwy miles past the oil change reminder)?

I would not give it a second thought. The suggested change is 500 after the light, and there has to be some fudge factor built into the 500.

I wouldn't worry about it on my '05, but that is not the same technology; old school here!

In all seriousness, I wouldn't worry about it on any 4th gen I had either. JMO

You should be fine, especially since your not towing and highway cruising.

From the owners manual "Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible, within the next 500 miles (805 km). "

The recommended service interval from Dodge is 7500 miles, reset it and go.

Sounds like a GREAT way to ruin a 6. 7!

The maximum OCI is 7500 miles, if the light comes on sooner change it sooner!! The light is based on 5% fuel in the oil, the max allowed by Cummins. So if your light comes on at 3800 and you reset until 7500 you are running a lot of miles with very thin oil, a great way to destroy bearings.

Now if your deleted it's another story, but the lack of regens will let the light stay off longer, usually until about 7,500-8,000 miles.

What likely happened, the OP has changed his oil in the past before the EVIC has indicated, and the technician who changed it, did not reset it.

Possible, but 3800 miles with the right, or wrong, kind of driving can easily produce the 5%.

The simple fact is that the OCI on a 6. 7 is NOT 7500 miles, it what the light tells you, up to 7500 miles.

Between my 08 and my 10, I have only once had the oil change required notification come on before I have hit 7,500 miles. 62,000 miles on the 08, and currently 44,000 on the 10.

It all depends on how you use it. With all highway/towing, you can get to 7500 without the EVIC sounding off. Make all short trips, you'll be hearing your DPF is 80%.

In 45K miles and 2 years with the sig truck, I get between 3,500 and 5,000 miles average before EVIC tells me to change it. It's never gone the full 7,500.

I alternate between changing it myself and having the dealer do it.

Oil level always creeps up a bit on the dipstick between changes, just like my old 07. 5 did. As soon as she hits 100K and I'm out of warranty, I'm deleting all the emissions crap.

My fist change on my 2011 7,300 miles second just done 13,250 (waited for the change message) both times both times some of the mileage included trips pulling my 5iver

I would not like to see the oil that went 7500 mile because of a reset instead of a change... ... ... . the viscosity looks terrible even when done when the light comes on. Cow ******* on a flat rock comes to mind
