Quick question about gear selector...

My wife was driving the truck the other day and noticed she was able to shift the truck with the key in the accessory position. She remote started the truck, did not have the key in the run position and the vehicle stalled(I realize this is normal). I had thought the brake inter-lock prevented shifting unless the key was in the run position. Could someone check their truck to compare(Has my wife freaked out a little)? Thanks as always
