Do any of the gearboxes come with synthetic gear lube? I live in a cold climate and would like to switch to synthetic if it's not in already. I'm refering to both diffs, transmission, and transfer case. I did a search on transmission lube and see there's been quite a few heated discussions on the particular brand that should be used. I have 22,000 light duty miles on it so my objective is two fold..... change just to get fresh oil in there and second to gain the benefits of synthetic. Is 22,000 miles too soon to change?

Amsoil recommends their Series 3000 5W-30 Diesel Engine oil for the 6 speeds. Their warranty will back it up, so no worries there. Change it out any time.

There are others, but Amsoil is what I know.

The 5 speeds come from the factory with a "synthetic", but you can do better than the factory lube.

Dodge says to put synthetic in the rear diff IF you are going to tow.

What do they they think we bought these things for? Lawn ornaments?

:D

Tom,

I switched the diff lube in both my front and rear diff at about 12,000 miles. I went with the Amsoil 75W-140 (I think that's the correct weight) in the rear diff, and the 75W-90 in the front diff. I just drained my 6 speed transmission last weekend at 24,000 miles, and went with the Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 as MGM suggested above. So far, my transmission shifts and seems to be working perfectly. I also went with the Geno's Garage manual transmission filter kit, and it looks like it's seeping ever so slightly around the darn cork gasket  I tightened the bolts as tightly as I could, if it keeps up, I may have to take it off and use some RTV silicone gasket material.

Gene, thanks for getting me set up with the Amsoil :D Will be placing an order for some more for the engine soon.

Oh, by the way Tom, when I had my South Bend clutch installed at about 18,000 miles, I had Amsoil synthetic ATF fluid put in my 4x4 ransfer case also. I will bee 100% Amsoil by the end of this year it appears.

Here we go again! I Knew I would find you here Gene! Like a vulture waiting for the last breath!

BTW, that last Tupperware party was a blast!

"Oh no it's not a pyramid"!:p

Do your own reasearch and beware of the salesmen on this board!

Mike

I use only Ham-Soiled 75/90 in my deep fryer when cooking snipes! ;)

AMSOILed Powertrain

Tomscreek,

When it was time to change the powertrain fluids I had three things in mind:

Proven compatibility/reliability

One stop source

Most bang for the buck

AMSOIL met this criteria and then some. A point to note: I am very skeptical about improved fuel economy claims (in regards to lubricants), but surprisingly, I saw a gain of . 5 Mpg’s with AMSOIL  Not to mention extended drain interval.

AMSOIL Series 2000 75W-90 Gear Lube in the front and rear and AMSOIL Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid in the auto and transfer case.

Thank you, Gene and Sheryl it is great to deal with you :D OK, great to deal with Sheryl. Only kidding Gene :D

You can get great prices on AMSOIL through the Group Purchase Site. When you get there just click on the AMSOIL Logo.

As long as people keep asking questions about synthetics, I plan on answering them. :p

Funny it is OK for HP VENDORS to come out here and answer questions, but not oil Vendors.

I only speak the truth, no hype!

:D

Gene

Absolutely NO SNAKEOIL!

One more thing, what is the deal with tupperware partys? I have seen that mentioned before.

People sit around drinking booze out of tupperware???

Generation gap? A BIG Generation gap?

The only place I have seen it for sale is the store. People like it so much they have partys? Are we all missing something?

Interesting concept, but I don't think if I had a party, people would buy oil. Drunks have no interest in changing oil, and what would happen if someone drank the oil? Lawsuit!(Amsoil recomends the oil be put in the drivetrain, not the driver, to get the best results. )

Thanks for bringing it up, but I really don't think it will work for me.

:D
