Is ther a quick way to run in 2wd lowtemporarily. Maybe unhooking vacuum lines and plugging. I won't need 4wd till winter and it would be nice to use 2wd low for backing up the 5th wheel. I know there are kits ,just wondering if there is a temporary way of doing it

Posi-lock

4wheelcustoms.com has the posi-lock system which will do just what you want. They have the best price and free shipping. Check them out.

the posi loc from what i have seen is a great way, for temp use you could unhook the vacuum plug on the axle fork motor, but i think even with the posi loc or unhooking the plug, when you pull the transfer case in the front left tire will still be locked in, correct me if i'm wrong but i think that will happen, could always remove the front driveshaft.

There are spider gears in the front diff so just removing the vacuum hose will be the same as not having it in 4WD. All the vacuum shifter does is disconnect or connect the right front axle. It does nothing to the left.

Like you, I also like to back my 5th wheel in low range (up a sharp drive and around a corner on concrete which really binds everything if 4x4 is engaged).

My solution was to pull the vaccum hose off of the front drive shaft spline motor. then route the end into the cab. Then I added another piece to go back down to the spline motor. With two ends in the cab, under the dash, I can simply connect/disconnect a plastic hose coupling between the two lines This prevents 4x4 engagement. Then after backing I reconnect. As Joe G indicated, everything is free to rotate.

We have a big advantage over the 3rd gen trucks which do not have the spline disconnect. This works great all for the cost of a few feet of vaccum hose. If you want to get fancy, you could add a vaccum switch instead of simply opening the line.
