I rode in my buddies 2000 extended cab/auto. It is a heck of alot quieter inside the cab than my 98. 5 is. The only difference is his has carpet on the floor and mine does not. Mine is a Sport. Is the insulation that much better on the 2000 that is making it that much guieter? There is a big difference in sound level between the two. Any thoughts? Thanks, Bob

I have no illusions that my '02 24 valve is as quiet as the '03+ trucks = but hafta comment that from inside the truck and especially in motion, engine noise is minimal. Sure, you get the usual road noises along with the expected wind noise, but even those are well with my threshold of pain... ;) :D

Outside the truck, at standstill, and especially with the hood up, it seems every bit as loud as my old '91 was - so I suppose DC must have done a pretty good job on various points of sound deadening... My radio is clearly audible down the road, even with my hearing handicap - and so is conversation at normal levels...

Bob,

To answer your question..... your buddy's carpet probably accounts for most of the difference.

If anything he's got less sound insulation than you do - they left off the underhood (and how many bags of hemp?) blanket for '02.

Also, I've noticed that the Mexican built trucks seem quieter in general so if his VIN begins with "3" and yours with "1" it's another possible reason.

Boy mine isn't quiet inside the cab. His is just just as loud outside the truck but inside his is alot guieter. Mine just echos something terriable. I'm gona check into this further. Thanks

Try stuffing some insulation inside the cup holder box around the shifter. That's an easy way to knock down the harshness on the stick trucks.

Going down the road mine sounds like theres a five gallon wet/dry vac. in the glove box! Damn I love this thing!
