2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Quieter Muffler

Over a year ago I put on a stainless 4" exhaust on my truck. It sounded great (loud). After a year the honeymoon is over and I would like to quiet it down a bit w/o losing flow.



Seems to me I recall a muffler suggested for this very reason on TDR but I cant seem to find it. A Walker model??



Any info would be appreciated.

I have a Donaldson 51" muffler. It's pretty quiet, but will let the turbo sing.

I believe Walker makes a 4” resonator that you could add to your system which should quite things down a bit.

Keep in mind that generally the larger the chamber, both in diameter and length, the quieter it will be.



On Edit: I forgot to add that all of these mufflers are round "Center to Center" units - no offsets, no side outlets or anything like that. I suspect that most of them are straight through louvered designs, with the exception of the the Noise Braker models which also have a cone arrangement in them.

No it doesn't. I compiled that list of Walker mufflers in an effort to determine what might be somewhat quiet, yet free flowing. The comments that are listed are from other TDR members that commented in other threads about particular mufflers. The bad part of all of this is that one person's idea of quiet or noisy will be completely different from another person's viewpoint.



Some of the Walker spec sheets also have attenuation dB listed, and I thought I had recorded those also, but I guess I was wrong. I also thought about getting Donaldson numbers and specs, but the nice thing about the Walker mufflers is that you can take the Walker number right into NAPA and order the muffler you want since NAPA uses Walker's numbers for exhaust parts. No need to cross over to an equivalent muffler.



I am currently running factory exhaust, with the muffler removed, but still have the factory resonator. In the cab, it's not loud at all, but outside, it is definitely louder than stock, and I can really hear it when I'm pulling my fifth wheel. As a result, I also want to go with something quieter, but I'm not sure what. I've been planning to get Rip Rook's exhaust which uses a straight through muffler, and use that as a starting point. I may have to add a resonator ahead of it to quiet it down. I figure I'll get Rip's advice before I purchase.



If any body else has any comments that they would like to add about a specific muffler model, please chime in and I'll update the text document.



One other muffler that sounds pretty nice and is quiet is the Silent Might from Rokktech. Pretty hefty price tag, but I've been considering it. Here is Rokktech's site

Thomas, I don't know what $$$$ you have but I am running stacks with a diverter valve which changes it to the back (comes out same area as stock tailpipe) and I am running the AERO that is a muffler & resonater in one and it sounds good, is still kinda throaty but still is pretty quite. I am very happy with it but they are alittle pricey.

For those of you that may be interested in some data on available Donaldson mufflers, please see the text file that I have attached here. All of the data including notes is from their website. Most of the mufflers listed are round, center to center mufflers unless stated otherwise. Mufflers listed as "Off Road" are painted black instead of being aluminized. Donaldson also includes dB of noise attenuation for most of their products, so I have included it as well.
