Hi all. I'm a new member. I am switching from the 96 CC 4wd 2500 V10 AT w/ 120K to a 2000 3500 QC Dually 4wd 5spd and Cummins. My truck is my office and I'm one of the few that get's paid to drive it. That brings me to the subject heading. I'm a Repo man. My trucks have hidden hydraulic lifts that come out from under the beds and pick up cars by the tires. The V10 was quiet but the Cummins which I love is a little louder backing up a driveway @ 2am. I've read about noise blankets in the archives and am checking into these. I've been told of a valve cover supposedly filled with oil in a double wall that would quieten the valvetrain some. I can't find any evidence of this though. I like the noise when running but I'd like the idle noise as low as I can get for the obvious reasons.
Though another topic perhaps, Can anyone tell me about using a US Gear Exhaust brake ? I'm familiar with the Jake brake Valve retarder, I haven't had any contact with exhaust type brakes.
Any tips or advice appreciated. I owned a auto shop till last year and do all my own work on my vehicles. I'm glad to be a member and have gotten a lot of information from your archives.
