I have had my rasp in for a year or so with out any issues you get so used to great fuel pressure you forget to keep a constant eye on the gauge. I was coming home the other day and noticed the pressure would drop to 5-6 psi under 1800rpms. I kept the pressure up and came strait home replaced the filter and the pressure was back to 11 psi at idle 16 0r so at 70mph. The filter only had 5500 miles on it it is fleet guard I am using a 2001 filter housing not the 99. I took the regulator out and shimmed the spring now I am at 15 psi at Idle but I can not remember if the pressure came up slowly after the truck starts or just jumped up I say slow about 5-7 sec. also when I romp the throttle hard the pressure dips 1-2 lbs then goes up . I think I am fine as even with the smarty on 8 ans the comp on 5 it never dips below 15 lbs. just curios if this is how your rasp reacts... Thanks George

check your gage..... i had 1 go bad, sound to me like your RASP is working fine... ... the only thing it could be is it may be sucking air from some somewhere. are you running a big line kit?

i run 13 at idle and 15 at WOT, but i set it that way,

I love my RASP..... nothing even comes close!!!

i run the same kit along with a mecanical gage,

the feed line you taped into from the tank could be sucking air,... . your gage could have air in the line also

The regulator on these act strange once in awhile, Olee said there was supposed to be a better regulator available for it, haven't heard anything since then.

Rasp,do You Feel Lucky?

I was ready to buy a Rasp. I confess I was somewhat turned off by the 1930's style gear pump (Brown & Sharpe style). Many members had good luck though & nothing tolerates more impurities than a gear pump. I called Olee, Power By Poole & he doesn't carry these anymore. As told to me/ after 4 leaking pumps in 1 week & told the factory would not warrantee them, he called it quits. It seems the pumps with"nothing to wear out" wore out the main casting & even a new seal would not hold. You can't put a new seal on a wore out shaft or bore & you can certainly draw in air(see thread). What is more telling to me than anything is that Rasp would not care if they lost a good honest distributor like PBP. These are not expensive pumps for the factory & you would think their reputation meant more than a few pumps. If Rasp can toughen this pump so it can be more tolerant of radial loading this may turn out to be the bulletproof setup it is touted to be. I am no expert or engineer, this is just nothing I'm going to sink $750. 00 in right now. I'm writing this not to hurt Rasp but to help the many people who have given me good advice to keep my truck running. Shine on, Randy

Rasp reply

As I said many people love their Rasp pumps & Graphic man is no exception. I don't believe there is any feed pump that will last forever, I was relaying what was told to me. I wanted TDR members to understand that yes something can go wrong. What I believe Rasp meant to advertise is their gearing will never wear out & I don't believe it will either, the gearing is very lightly stressed in this application. Diesel fuel is a fine lube for the gears, it is not as good for what I am told is plain bearing shafts. I don't know the circumstances of what caused the failures as told to me. Hopefully you will be lucky and have no problems at all like most TDR members. / There is a difference between pumping engine oil & light diesel oil as far as lubricity. Good luck, Randy

A lot of guys put the belt on it too tight, doesn't do the shaft bearings any good! Mine has been flawless, except for the occasional issue with the regulator, which I corrected by using the "reseat tool" that we use on the race car. :D

Almost anything can be abused to the point of failure. Over tightening belts on tooth belts (gimmer), is a common problem. The mention of radial play tells me that the belts could very well have been too tight. As always there appears to be more to the story... I put my RASP on at ~30K, and have over 118K on the pickup now.

If Olee said that they didn't have replacement parts sent out then I don't think that he is being honest, as I am the one that is looking after the replacement parts. I have sent out replacement seals to people before, most of the time because the belt was too tight. The pump has been redesigned now with a steady bearing on the front, and it has really helped even when the belt is on to tight.

I double checked the fittings could not find any loose truck has been running good for several days started it up last night after sitting for 20 hr ran for several seconds and died out of fuel the tank is 3/4 full or better.
