My cousin has a 92 2500 and yesterday we removed and replaced his injection from a 91. 5 with a pump that wasn't original. We pin timed both engines then took the pumps off and swapped. Now his 92 won't start. We are pretty sure the timing is correct and there seems to be plenty of fuel coming out of the injector lines when we cracked them open. The pump we put on the 92 run great on the 91. 5 but the truck was involved in an uphill rollover and is totaled. The engine only ran for about one second after the rollover before he shut the truck off. What could the problem be? Thanks for any help.

Sometimes what looks like "plenty of fuel coming out of the injector lines when we cracked them open" isn't really enough so double/triple check that you have bled the system properly. Make sure the lift pump is really pumping fuel good when you hand prime it with the lever. I have been "duped" more than once in the past on that.

But past that you need one of our pump gurus to chime in.

Did you loosen lines at injectors, stuff rags underneath them, operate lever on fuel pump until fuel comes out with no bubbles. Tighten each line as it squirts out pure fuel? You may have to rotate engine slightly to get fuel pump off of lobe of cam.

Fuel squirting out of the line at the injector nut means nothing.

On the other hand, if it is an air free fuel system i. e. you bleed all the air out of the supply lines, filter and injection pump, you need only bleed two maybe three high pressure lines and it will hit right off and run after an injection pump swap.

In short, the pump is either way off time or the fuel you see squirting out the lines at the injectors is full of air because the system is full of air.

Just because the timing pin went in doesnt mean its tdc compression ill bet 1 truck was compession #1 and the other truck was tdc #6 180 degrees off easy fix

True for a P-Pump but the VE will only install one way so the engine, either engine, can be at any location. I wouldn't matter.

The only way it goes out of time is if the gear is jiggled a bit too much then it will jump a tooth. It does happen easily if you are not careful.

forgot to lock the pumps on removal so out of time... one problem fixed only to have another. the fuel screw is almost all the way in... no runaway but had to reindex the throttle to bring the idle back down to a reasonable speed. now i'm getting next to nothing for fuel... it will only build boost at high rpms (2500-3000) and even then it is only 5lbs max. there is NO smoke... even at startup there is just the tiniest puff... nothing like it or any other first gen does at startup. driving with the pedal to the floor or minimal pressure makes no difference in how much fuel it gets... just a steady small amount. it does not have a fuel pressure guage yet so we don't know if that's the problem... will be here in 8 days. the pin that rides on the fuel pin is working. any ideas? thanks

figured it out... the tip brazed on the end of the fuel screw is not right in line with the screw so as you turn it in it swivels around and eventually pushes off to the side... put another stock fuel pin in and she gets up and goes now! thanks for all the help.
