Just got my 05. It has a little over 100 miles on it now. The manual states that one should not tow until the truck has 500 miles on it. And also that when starting to tow in the first 500 miles one should not exceed 50 mph. How critical is this..... are they just being overly precautious? My tow rig weighs in about 5500 lbs.

Godd article. On my 1993 W250 I replaced the 3. 55s with 4. 10s. Bought master kits with gears from GEARS&REARS. Any how for the first 500 miles at least they wanted non syn. lube in them as well as easy driving. I went about 1500 miles and then serviced them to a syn. fliud. They were real infactic about EASY driving for the first 500 to 1000 miles. Drove with front hubs locked etc.

You da man!

Now that is why I love this place..... rbattelle... that is exactly what I was looking for, VERY informative, thanks much. Well I already broke one of the no, no's. I had about 22 miles on the truck and ran her to about 80mph..... but only for a couple of miles. I had to as this was a buy-back truck due to the 70+ mph vibe issue. How else was I going to know if the truck has the same issue or not? Hope it did not hurt it. However other than running it past 60 within the first hundred miles and doing so only for very short periods I am doing well in the break-in process. About 150 miles on her now and have taken it very easy, no towing yet... . and when I do it's only 5500 lbs and I am going to take it slow. Well that's ONE good thing about not having hubs..... at least the frt end is getting broke in a little. Thanks again, great article.
