I will be replacing my front springs with Skyjacker 2" leveling springs. I have read all the posts I could find but still would like any additional info you can give me. Any tips on the install would be appreciated. I have a 4x4 and the service manual. Did you disconnect the track bar at the frame mount or at the axle? Or both? It seems like I would be easier just to disconnect it at the axle and tie it up. Saves having to use a puller on the frame mount end. What do you think?

Thanks a lot,

Dave MacArthur

I just installed a set of spring spacers on mine. I got a set of spring compressors on loan from my local O'Reilly Auto Parts. Put them on the springs, lift one side of axle at a time with a floor jack to compress the spring even more and get the spring compressors tighten down. Disconnect the sway bar end. Then lower the axle and remove the spring. Reverse order for installation - compress with spring compressors (be careful with these things - rotate tightening from one to the another frequently to keep from getting most/all of the tension on one). Install spring, raise that side of axle, re-connect sway bar, and loosen and remove spring compressor.

I left out the part about removing the shocks - it's fairly straight forward.

Hope this helps.

you might call a lift kit vendor and see if they can tell you the process... just a thought,
it sounds like the compressors would do the job too. that was the first thing came to mind when I read your post.

Just jack up the truck high enough to get the front axle to full drop. Next place a jack stand under the frame right behind the lower link on both sides. Then remove tires when truck is stable, place small jack stands under the axle on both sides. Disconnect sway bar from frame 2 bolts at each bushing, if not axle will not droop enough to install new springs. If you bought the new links remove the old ones now. Place floor jack under axle on either side and remove jack stand, you will now be able to lower the axle, but not yet. Remove the shock tower and shock. Next lower the axle and remove the coil spring, becareful not to overextend the brake line. One side on my truck needed to removed at the axle mounting bolt (one bolt). Reinstall the new spring larger end down with the end of the coil toward the tire, aligned with the axle (look at the stock coil). Install shock and dual shock parts at this time,if applicable. Replace jack stand as low as it will go then do the other side the same way . If you are installing new Links, attach to the frame first then the axle, much easier. When all parts are in replace tires, lower down and torque all nuts and bolts affected. Replace sway bar. Enjoy the ride and the look. This is my second CTD. I had Skyjacker 2. 5 class 2 on both my trucks, quality parts. I run there Nitro shocks, better stability and ride. E-Mail me if you need further help. #ad
