Another question on this new truck.

When I shift from reverse to park, I have loud clunking noise from the slack in the transfer case. I know these trucks have alot of tourque, but it seems really bad.

Is this normal?

Mine does not clunk

check for slop in the u joints and feel the backlash in your rear end. You will need to set the parking brake with the truck in Neutral with the driveline unbinded to check this. Put the parking brake on first then put it in Neutral it should free it up.

there is some slop in these light duty chain driven transfercases in the chain itself which can stretch with use. It takes alot of miles to stretch them where they clunk and in some cases in these Jeep 231's that we work in every day I have seen them rub against the case itself.

again mine does not clunk and I have over 9k I guess I would need to hear your clunk

what does your truck idle at?

Don't know if this still applies to the newer autos..... But I always used to make sure to hit Neutral for a quick second before throwing it into Park. This would allow the driveline to unload first. I'm sure someone else can comment further on this.

My wifes truck this also. I'm not sure its the transfer case tough. It's more like its clunking against the park lock in the transmission itself. The truck seems like the torque converter is super tight. It's like it wants to keep going. Going to neutral first and letting it sit just a split second then going straight to park seems to help. I've never heard it clunk when going to park from drive.
