Competition Tulsa Dyno Day and Race

Competition Cool Website...

I made it to the track Friday. It was my first time to race and let me tell you it was "GREAT. " Man it is fun to whip up on some Mustangs and Firebirds. Nothing gets a crowd going like a Dodge Diesel whipping the Sh**! out of and FORD Mustang. my first run was a 14. 5, second 14. 7 third was a 15. 3 " spun the tires througt 2nd" and the last run of the night was a 14. 2 and that was againts a Mustang and a crowd pleaser. He had me by 2 links at the start and I caught him and beat him bad. He was a little shocked. :--) Man this could get addicting. :D :D

Yep, it is addicting! I finally talked the bosses into letting me take the white Dodge out to the track on Saturday. Suprised a lot of people, that's for sure.

Best run of the day was 13. 63 @ 98. 06

that's great, where you in 4wd or 2wd? what were your 60' times? 98mph is pretty good.

Thats really good..... I'm impressed you kept it under 2. 0 the whole time. Do you remember how hard you were launching it?? Just curious... ...

I guess not to do it would be the surefire way, but that's no fun ;) . I think it's the output shaft that's more prone to break as well. One guy said that he broke an output shaft trying to launch over 20psi. Jim F said he's been doing 25psi launches without failure yet. I'm waiting to try them until I have a spare trans in the shop... can't afford to be without a daily driver.

i have well over 100 25psi 4wd launches on my bd race transmission with no problems yet. now i do have a different output shaft than stock in it. i believe some people are kryroing there output shafts, and they seem to be holding up pretty good.

Keith,

I wouldn't launch at 25lbs of boost as the risk is high of breaking an output shaft. Remember you are running a tight tc that is putting alot of power to the ground. Remember Jim is lucky he's sponsered so he got nothing to loose if he breaks all parts are free. Were not all so lucky. ;) Jim I'd watch the transfer case as mine is starting to make some noises. :(

Keith -

I meant to ask also, did you shift out of 4wd? Or run the whole track in 4wd?

Also were the runs on #2 only? (guessing they were)

If I try anything over 10psi, I just spin the tires (in 4wd).

stefan

i need to tone it down a bit. but it is so much fun launching at 25psi. my truck hooks pretty good on the street in 2wd. i can leave at 10psi with very little tire spin. i'm hopin with my new traction bars will give me another 5psi in 2wd.

i've been doin quite a bit of street racing, and it's great to leave the other guy at the line. i was out racing a low 12 sec nova last night and he finally caught me at 80mph. after that he was pullin past me pretty hard. that's why street racin is great while he's spinning his tires i'm gone!! he was pretty happy with himself until i told him that was just on #2. we tried it again and i gave it everything but he quite racin becuase he was just spinning his tires. oh well tonight he is supposed to have a different set of tires, so we will see how the truck runs!!

when i'm up for bd dyno days will the track be open? i'd like to see if we could get a buch of guys to go racin. it's in late april.

kat

i've tried to shift out of 4wd under power on a gravel road to see if it comes out and it doesn't. i even hit the n2o after i shifted into 2wd and still got torque stear.

I shift out under full throttle, and it comes out, least I believe it does because it sounds a whole lot happier then it used to at the end of the track. And it seems I am faster when shifting out. When I turn off the track my hubs have unlocked while slowing down.

Stefan, we're going to put the race 93 converter in and while we're there we're going to your cryoed input and output shafts.

Kat, all those runs were done launching in 4wd, shifting out after the 1-2 shift... but the light stays on all the way to the end until I back out. I'm guessing it's staying in 4wd. Those runs were on #2 only. I was leaving at 15-18psi with no problems. Even Friday night doing some test launches on the street I couldn't get it to spin with 20psi.

I might not be as high in the RPM band as you though for the same amount of boost due to the cam spooling the turbo up sooner.

learning to race

I'm going to have to re-learn how to launch after I get an automatic put in. I have addressed the issue of shifting out of 4wd by flipping a vacuum switch to release it once I go into O/D.

eric

your going to love the auto!!

i don't think releasing the vacuum will disengauge the front axle. there is still so much tension on the sleeve that you will have to let off the throttle in order for it to slide back.

jim

not good

That's not good. I am not going to be going well over 100 mph in 4wd. I will have to lower the truck for that. Lift kit for sale?

i'm having a custom set of wheels made for my truck. 15x10 with 2" of back spacing to clear my calipar. i'm putting on a set of 31x14. 5 m/t street e/t's. these should help a bunch.

jim

Eric i would like to point out the weak vacuum valve these trucks have. i think you may find, you will have to convert the cable actuated positive disconnect.

since your shifter hand will be free now (oh brother) you should be able to deactivate the 4wd.

i just dont think the front axle can disconnect under full power with that pewny valve up front.
