Competition Racing a 6 speed?

i have the same mods as old red plus water/meth with a built auto and with 20lbs. launches im only . 9 quicker in the 1/4. . so the manual isnt to much slower.

All I know is this..... A good friend of mine and I would stay neck'n'neck or nose to tail till he shifted... then I'd gain. On the same dyno same day... he was about 100hp over me. He was running a 3500 2wd, stock turbo (at that time) 4kGSK, Reg. cab. I'm running a 4x4 Extended cab, 3kGSK.



He has since gone to twins and an Auto.

very general rule of thumb for street oriented vehicles in the 1/4 mile...



10hp = . 1 = one car length...



100hp advantage and you're neck and neck... because the auto is ~1 sec quicker in the 1/4...



I love my hand shaker, but if I could afford a built auto, I'd do it in a heartbeat

i was just posting my time i know a built auto will prob beat me with the same mods as me but i didnt think 13. 7 was to bad with a 6 speed with a stock clutch thats all i was sayin

no, that's VERY good for a 6sp!!!!! and you may find another tenth or two w/ a little more agressive driving w/ the new clutch.



but a properly built auto will always be faster in these trucks...

no i've seen him race there is no more agressive 6 speed shifter around. period...

Thats dam fast for a 6sp. I thought I was doing good with a 5 speed at 15. 01 with a stock turbo set at 30psi and a drag comp/Dragon flows. I only lauch at 8psi. And I tried the keep it to the floor and just shift trick but the ofe will not take it. Pm me and tell me how you do it please.

Hp for Hp you can't manually shift one of these things as fast as a built auto that's building boost at the line. period... ... .....

If you are good with a clutch you can build boost at the line just like an auto... power brake while feathering the clutch... but yes it is tough to compete with an automatic. But don't forget if you are competing with the same motors a manual will put more power to the ground.

i would never try building boost at the line for racing all i do is rev it up and slide the clutch out . power braking a clutch like that is just gonna make it hot and slip and youll be replacing in no time. i dont think youd run any fast tryin to build boost like that at the line with a manual transmission

with a line lock for a 6 spd, you should be able to gain a little bit due to the fact you could leave the line with a little bit of boost rather then rev it up and dump it.

I dont think buildin boost is gonna get u off the line any faster with a six speed transmission its hard on the clutch, and im gettin 1. 9 60feet times with just reving it up and dumping it. Is any one else gettin a better 60 foot time with a manual just wondering
