Competition ALASKA Drag Racing Wed 25 May..Come on out

I went to Temple Dragway last Friday night with good thoughts. My frist run was witht the box on 3x5, I ran a 15. 0. Not too impressed. I gathered all my thoughts and with the encouragement of my frinds put the box on 5x5. I ran a 15. 2!! A freakin 15. 2!!!!! With the box off I can out run most of my friends. The smoke it puts out is insane. I was pushin 45 psi boost with the box on 1, and I can peg the pyro with the box off. The clutch wasn't slipping noticeably. I can't figure it out. The only thing that I can think of is that I'm putting so much fuel in there that I'm drowning the engine with fuel and it's not getting enough air with the stock turbo. But it put out so much smoke they had to wait 2 mins to run the next set of cars at the track! Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Eric

You need some air...

I haven't Bombed anything yet, But it sounds like you need some more air. You should defiantly put on a larger turbo. If JR Adkins rates his injectors like the other Vendors, (+ 85-100 HP) then the Smoke must have been Thick. The engine needs air (Oxygen) to burn the fuel. At 45 psi for an HX-35 the output must have very hot. Is the air outlet of the turbo been Yellowed? If so then it must have hit over 180+F, not good. That temp would thin out the air even more. Try an HX-40, it alomst is a bolt in, You need to change the Exhaust Headpipe to a clamp style. Regards, Moose

Exactly as Moose stated. Did you know you can put out a fire with enough gasoline? You have way to much fuel in that motor for the air its getting. The hx35 turbo looses efficiency when it exceeds 30 psi of boost. The air charge gets hotter as the boost goes up. The hotter it gets the less air you get to burn the fuel you are putting in. Sort of like putting a 750 double pumper on a stock 4 banger. You need a much larger turbo-even bigger than the hx40 mentioned above. You are gonna need a B1 or something that size to make it work right.

I knew I was going to need a bigger turbo. I need way bigger than a hx-40. Thats a given. I'm looking at a B-1 Killer. It's a very tough turbo. Thanks guys

Eric

I heard U smoked out both lanes. . and they had to wait for the smoke to clear before they could start the next round... . . ... Like U didn't know U needed a turbo... We've been taking bets at how long that little HX is going to hang in there. . :-laf ...

A B-1 would be nice... heard its been tuff to get parts for them right now... .

Drop me a line before you buy. . ;)

Get that B1 and your sure to see a big difference in you track times- but watch the boost psi and that headgasket.
You might want to pop off the valve cover, adjust the valves and check the head bolts- when you swap to the new turbo- piece of mind... ... .

RD... I'm working on him... . Trying push him into at least a set of studs... .

Eric... we need a dyno day... .

search for wastegate info here and DTR, the B1 turbos all seem to run best between 42-45psi boost. if there isn't a wastegated housing for whichever turbo you choose, setup an external. water injection (with or without meth) will help EGT, too

The waste gated B1 is the way to go, I have installed several, and the turbo really works great. the external waste gate is not necessary with the power level you are running. Turbo Auto Diesel in Phoenix is the home of the B1 talk to Ken Diaz 602 272 5311. This is the Turbo I run in the steroids version with a internal waste gate

Hey Eric next time you go down to TAD give me a call. I would like to see what my truck can do, but I dont want to be the only diesel there. I PMed you my number.
