For those of you with an 06 4x4 with the electronic shift knob on the dash. Does the knob allow you to control the disengaugement of the front end well enough to launch in 4wd, and take it out of 4wd after you launch? also what actuates the shift. Is it vacuum or electronic? Thanks for your help.

Mine is an '05 not an '06 with electric 4x4 but I'm sure they are the same. I can assure you it is electrical and not vacuum. As far as the launch question, I can't answer that since I never drive that way.

If you try to dissconnect it, it wont do anything until you let off. It wont come out under power. Its not hurting anything by leaving it in either, just run it like everyone else does.

i couldn't say, i know that if i were to leave it in 2 wheel that we would lose alot more time, due to loss of traction. and by shifting out of 4 wheel it still does not disengage until you let off the go pedal all the way. most the time when someone says they shift out of 4 wheel its actually still in until they get to the end and let off the pedal.

I agree even if you shift out of 4hi with manual or electric it is not going to disengage until you let off the throttle and slow down some. First few times I ran at the track in 4wd for the whole 1/4 mile I did sort of pucker up, if you know what I mean. I had never been over 100mph in 4wd in a heavy duty truck before.

No way to compare times like stated above. In 2wd at any reasonable launch I just smoke tires no matter what size. If I launch at a level to hook up then loose close to a second on the ET.
