My lift pump is quickly dieing. I am going to order a 7 psi pump from summit but want to put a filter before it. I have seen some of you use the Racor 690. Where can I find one of these units. I would also like to know something about it, port sizes, is there a heater and water drain etc. Also does it flow enough to keep the pumps happy.

RACOR 690. 90 = gallons / minute so should be pleanty. OEM ff is 45 gpm. I got mine from SouthEast Power Systems. Good guys, prompt, ship anywhere.

I put AN-6 in all my fuel system.

Mine = Tank, Racor 690 (10 micron filter, change this about every 25k miles), lp, bypass regulator, OEM ff (change this one about once a year, 25k miles) , VP.

Racor 690 can take fuel heaters, WIF sensor, has clear bowl option so you can see the sedimant and water seperated. I think key to the RACOR system is it is PATENTED to REMOVE water. I just made the annual racor filter change and the filter was ~ $25. Cheap insurance.

On the water, imagine what happens to water when it goes from 10psi to 20,000 psi in the VP, super heated steam?, gross high pressures? pitting of machined surfaces?

Each time the local TDR has gone to VP rebuilders they all say the same thing - NO WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, CLEAN fuel, lubricated. RACOR does the NO WATER and CLEAN fuel part. I drain a sample every month to check it.

ONCE in Orlando I got a bad batch of fuel (had a lot of water). I let the RACOR strip out the water and drained it frequently. Saved several $100. My bypass regulator after the lp goes back to the tank so I constantly recirculate any fuel bypassed back to the tank and back again through the RACOR. The VP bypass cooling fuel goes back to the tank and back again through the RACOR. Clean it (the fuel), clean it, clean it, clean it, clean it, clean it, ... .....

50k on the first lp, another 50k and I should have good data on the bypass regulator.

Bob,

Putting the Racor in sounds like a good idea. I'm interested in how you installed the Racor and how easy it is to service. Any chance you could post a pic?

Thanks,

PK

I put mine on a 1/4" slab of steel in the pocket under the bed on the drivers side. The top of the slab is bolted to the bed stringer that goes from left to right across the bed and the bottom is bolted to running board support struts.

I put the RACOR on the tailgate side of the slab so nothing could possibily injure it.

I'll try to post a pic in a day or so.

Its not a good idea to put it on the suction side

I'm pretty sure the Racor 690 flow ratings are rated on the pressure side. If you install it on the suction side you will throttle the pump and possibly aerate the fuel. I use the racor 690 on the pressure side of the pump with a 2micron filter, with no problems. I do it to protect the VP44.

I got a RACOR 690R1210 from usdieselparts.com It has a 200 watt thermostatically controlled heater & a drain in the settling bowl. The ports are 3/8 npt. It flows plenty.

I have mine before the lp and have not had a problem with supply, but I am not at high HP, ~375.

The only problem I have ever had with the RACOR is when changing filters I have to loosen the fp sensor up by the VP and bump the lp to fill the new RACOR filter with fuel and purge all the air out of the fuel lines.

for your area (Mass) you need to make sure you get one that has a heater. they come in 12 or 24 volt so be careful what you order. the fuel will wax up and glog on you in the winter without one.

I am about to order the Racor as well. my goal is to replace the factory filter housing with the Racor and push fuel through it. I have a holley blue at the tank and the factory lift pump with a bypass regulator just before the pump and prior to my pressure guage. i run 12PSI (regulated) constant and carry enough volume i can not drop below 10 on a hard stomp. this is all through the factory lift and filter now, i have 3/8 lines from the tank forward and all banjos have been replaced with areomotive adapters and -6an fittings to the vp.

Rwies is in Florida, so he doesnt need the heater.
