I was thinking about putting a RACOR 690 with a 2 micron filter on my new 04. 5 between the tank and the lift pump. I have read many of the post regarding RACOR filters, but I still had a few questions:

1. Now that a little time has passed, has any one had any problems associated with their RACOR fuel/water separator setup?

2. What affect, if any, would this have on my warranty?

3. Would a 2 micron filter over-work the fuel pump and cause an early pump failure on a completely stock engine? and

4. Would installation be too difficult for a novice to handle?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

I have also considered a Racor-type setup (or something with 2 microns anyways). I believe that the stock lift pump will stumble and die an early death if you try to make it suck fuel through a 2 micron filter. You need to provide a supplemental filter to push fuel through.

Also, at 2-microns, a fuel heater is absolutely essential, so you need to factor that into the setup (not sure if Racor comes with a fuel heater option).

Effect on warranty? Depends on the dealer. I have thus far NOT made any change or even touched my fuel system, because I firmly believe that if I so much as look at it cross-eyed and it fails my warranty will be voided.

Is this too hard for a "novice"? Depends on how much of a novice you are. Are you good at plumbing? Do you have experience making solid, leak-proof connections? Are you good with electricity?
