After another ticket this past weekend, I am in the market to upgrade my radar detector. I am currently using a Cobra that was probably made in the late 80s.

I live in VA and Detectors are illegal.

I have looked at numerous web sites looking at different products, and have done the search on here to get prior opinions. I also know technology changes by the minute.

Unless one of you can change my mind, I think I am in the market for just a detector not a jammer. I feel that if the cop sends out a signal and it bounces off my truck and returns to him skewed, he will know something is up and give him a reason to pull me to check.

From what I have read so far, it seems to be a toss up between the passport 8500 and the valentine one. All the data to support that statement was in articles or threads written last year.

Does anybody have any current facts or product suggestions?

All help, as usual, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shawn

Valentine One

Hey Shawn,

I had a Passport 8500 for a month and then switched to a Valentine One and I can tell you, the Valentine One is hands-down a better detector.

The Passport has more bells and whistles on it, but for an accurate reliable detector, I wouldn't use anything other than a Valentine One.

Just my two cents...

Hope this helps.

Andy

you simply cannot buy a better RADAR detector than the Valentine One. However if they are getting you with laser i would go for the K40 Laser Defuser. I believe car and driver did a test and it actually past with flying colors.

Go for the Valentine. They have a version that has the antenna separate from the display, which makes it easier to hide.

I've had my Valentine for, like, 5 or 6 years. Been upgraded twice. Well worth the price.

Seedguy: I'd like to see that article on the Laser Diffuser. It would be the first anti-laser product (besides a detector) that I've heard really works. Most jammers/defeaters of radar and laser are mostly "snake-oil".

Got to admit, it's been years since I read a "Radar Detector Showdown" ... think it was put on by Car & Driver, but the Valentine 1 was the clear winner.

I've owned a couple different Escort/Passports & a cheapie & the Valentine 1 is by far the best. Bought mine >5 yrs ago.

I've even thought about calling them up & seeing about sending it in for upgrades.

Rocky Mountain Radar

I have a Rocky Mountain Radar/Jammer, it does a good Job, only been pulled over once in 4 years of having it. It is a passive jammer and is legal if detectors are legal. Radar will "burn" through the jamming once your with in 100 yds or so, but it gives you time to reaact. Valentine 1 cannot go wrong. I remember a few years back, the Bell 45 series(645, 745) had the best radar detector for the money, and got a second to the Valentine one in overall performance. Not for suere about the Bell's anymore though.

Dector

Does Valentine 1 have a web site??? Need one because I ran over mine while changing it into my new truck. Laid it down and yep ran over it. Dumb Sh- - - !!!

Where to buy Valentine One?

I've done some searches, and can't come up with any discount source for the Valentine.

Are they available only through their site at full price... . $399. 00??

TIA

i've got a BELL 985 and i run up to norfolk ,VA. evry week and haven't been busted yet , have owned this radar detector since last july when i was running over the road , and since i have had this one i am ticket free:D

I just insalled a BEL 615sti a couple weeks ago, I bought it used. it is remote mount with a separate rear detector and it seems pretty good, already saved me twice.

but over the years I have always heard how great the Valentine is.

I've also got the Bel 985 and it works great. I've got the Bel 904 as a laser jammer. Both work really good. The Valentine is great and I think always has been. When I went to buy a radar detector this last time I signed up on www.jamradar.com. I know, it may be a waste of money, but they tested the popular detectors against each other for each band, etc. Also they had one of the best sections on jammers. Needless to say they helped me determine that the last so called jammer I bought was worthless. Anyway the Valentine was better then the 985 for X-Band, but not for all other types of Radar. For K it was pretty close, but for KA, the 985 was better. So I would try and figure out what is used where are are at when you try and make a choice of a detector.

I've had my Valentine One for over 7 years now. The newer models are more compact, same shape and functions, though. I've had it upgraded, the company has gone to great lengths not to obsolete the older ones like mine. I'd buy another one even if this one conked out. (BTW, they repaired it once, no charge, I think heat or old age got to it)

They are fantastic on the interstate, but on two lane country roads, with the cops using "instant-on" radar, you're a sitting duck, no matter what jammer or detector you use.

:D I'm still working on my anti-pursuit devices, like the electromagnet mounted where the spare tire normally goes, to drop tire spikes at the flip of a switch. :D And the rotating license tag. :D

Briar, Don't know if you heard... . prohibition is over! :)

BTW: In my county all the Sheriffs are using laser now. I notice the valentine1 says it's good for laser also, but it doesn't go into any detail. I hear it is tougher to detect, maybe the jammer is the answer.
