Bob, only an old timer here would remember that one, as I recall it resulted in more than one suspension. Hope this doesn't start a screen war.

I remember the last one, it caused me to throw my screen away. I'm not buying another. :-{} :-laf Now I might add a screen if I lived in Florida and had to deal with the Love Bugs. I just keep my Rad. clean and dodge the bugs the best I can when driving.

I was about ready to post a question about running with a screen. I have a FIA fabric mesh in front of my grill and a fine mesh in front of my radiator/ cooler. I was towing a trailer in a stiff cross wind, the fan was running and the water temp was going up as well as the egt higher then normal at that power level. I did a quick check for plugged fins and everything was okay. A little bit of junk was on the screen so that was working.

I will get 1/8 wire mesh.

A friend with a 98 Dodge V10, a grill cover and no screen has a line across the radiator where all the fins are bent over. This line is the gap between the grill and the bumper. When I saw this I knew I wanted something stiff enough to catch rocks or whatever was causing his damage.

I have a question for Bill and maybe a couple of you other folks.

Exactly how are you measuring your intake air temps? The only temp gauges I have on my truck are EGT (obviously nothing to do directly with intake temps) and the overhead computer outside ait temp sensor (obviously doesn't know whether or not you have any sort of screen over your radiator).

Just curious, as I have used 1/8" window screen mesh for ther last 2 years, and have not noticed any difference in EGTs when using it versus not using it.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom, I measure IAT with a probe drilled/tapped into the intake air horn about 6'' upstream from the grid heaters. The probe is wired though a switch and doubles with my auto trans temp gauge. For IAT you need a gauge that reads from zero to at least 150°, mine is digital and reads 0-350°.

On a 24 valve you can also measure IAT with a scan tool.
