1954 Willys Project/Repower

Ford/Cummins folks--How do PS guys react?

Based upon my obesrvations just holding them up in place, I will be able to make the intercooler fit. However the '93 crossflow radiator isn't going to cut it. :( Looks like I will need to use a vertical radiator out of an '89-'90. I really don't want to do that though, as the genral opinion among the 1st gen guys is that the old vertical radiator is "inferior". Could I re-core the '89-'90 radiator with extra rows of tubes? Can I have the crossflow radiator recored with narrower core (but add extra rows of tubes to compensate?)? Can anyone offer me a better suggestion?

FYI: It needs to fiti inside a 28"x"30 opening.

Thanks in advance!

Don

Don , best bet would be to get a custom made radiator using the dimensions you need with a good shop, make it a cross flow and if possible, use a truck core.

I would not even think of using the 89- early 91 radiator as its a waste of time, you will have overheating problems, and even if you just move the neck over to the other side you need the cooling.

Call around and give them the specks that wou need with the sizes and hopefully you can get something

Good Luck

Hey Thierry, do you think they would be able to fab something using the tanks from my existing 93 Crossflow rad? I suppose the best thing to do would be call and ask huh? We do have two radiator shops locally that are prestty good. I was thinking recore the crossflow with a narrower core, but add extra rows of tubes to compensate. Doable or not?

Is there anything from another 6BT powered application that would be more suitable? What do the Freightshaker chassis' use?

The suggestion box is still open!

Don

Don, cant help you here as only know about the first gen trucks as I have torn apart 7 trucks now, have 3 crew cabs in my back yard with 2 Dodge Darts as well, I have one finished 91 Ramcharger with a new cummins in it and love it.

I need to get rid of most of them to make way for a 69 Coronet R/T that I just droped off to a friend of mine up north that will completly restore it. OUCH, here goes some money, and with my lovely wife in the back ground saying get rid of all the stuff in my backyard

Good luck

Thierry

Those are two row radiators. I would pass on it. As far as it cooling as good as a 4 core. I would not hold my breath on that statement. I would get at least a 3 core. If you are going to run A/C then a 4 core. If you plan desert travel in the summer. I would find the biggest one you can.

A 93 Chevy C10 with a V6 uses a 26X19 alum radiator. It can be had in two core or 4 core. There is also a larger radiator made for it also. Make a trip down to your local NAPA store and have them look for a radiator by the size you have to work with and the outlet positions you need.

If they can't find anything or they do not want to mess around being helpful finding one. Then here is one place to check with.

http://www.becool.com/

This place has been in business for many years.

Here is another one. I do not know anything about them.

http://www.alumrad.com/

If you plug the term "aluminum radiators" into www.google.com it comes back with a mountain of places that do custom alumin radiator work.

I have used a becool radiator in a stock car. It was a nice setup.

I replaced a 4 core copper/brass radiator with single 1" core aluminum one in my 82 buick regal with a 455 c. i. stage one motor with twin electric fans. I saw a temperature drop of 20 degrees over the old copper/brass one. A two core aluminum rad. might work well.

No offense banzaitoyota, but the Griffins are glued together with epoxy. The PRCs are all WELDED together. The one in the drawing in the link above was built to my exact specifications... .

And here she is! What a beauty eh? Wel,l I guess she oughtta be for $400 bux!
