Have the infamous drain plug problem, only mine broke off inside.

Ain't gonna pay some jack wagon to haul my truck off the mountain only to pay another jack wagon take out the radiator for repairs, . . if possible.

The manual says to jump once and click my heels twice and the radiator just pops out. You and I both know that some steps have been left out.

What can stay and what has to come off inorder to get this POS PLASTIC radiator out of my truck?

If its like other new cars, you should be able to remove the rad hoses, pull two top support bolts, and lift it out?

Just a thought, but are you sure you can't just push the balance of the plastic nut out and install a new one? See page 40 of the TDR issue 71 which provided a picture of a replacement plug with captured nut attached :

Hope this may help :)

I saw your post and picked up a replacement plug from Napa this morning. It's a little different from the OE but it doesn't leak so I' guessing it ok.

I have a BD steering brace on my truck so it eats up my working space. I ended up pulling the A/C condensor (system was already empty), intercooler etc to get the radiator out. Not sure if it was neccessary but I got to see more of my truck than I thought I'd ever see.

Thanks

I'm 99% sure my fan shroud is engine mounted? It has four supports from the engine, and accordian folds to the radiator.

You can see my confusion?

Mine is engine mounted as well

Warranty pays 1. 5 hours to replace... ... that translates into a first time guy will spend about 3 hrs.

remove the shroud, the fan and clutch, move the condensor out of the way drianing not needed, remove the intercooler then you will have enough room to lift that beheemoth out of the engine bay. Of course you remembered to remove hoses etc

I must have a different truck as mine is held in by six bolts, the inner shroud (that's the part is was confused on), the wires running over the top of it, and the hoses... it would then lift right out. I'm standing in front of the truck as I type this... no need to remove the fan or its shroud??

I looked that over, mine would come out if it had the hardware removed I listed above. .

Could there be differences in years and between auto/manuals?

Sure no cooler lines. Every 3rd gen and 4th gen I have had apart the cooler is in the way. Now you can jockey it around but not relly worth it unless you have somebody helping to hold stuff while you are yanking away

I remember there was a change that attached the shroud and fan to the engine from the traditional mounting method. It may have been when they went to the 325/650 engine.

FYI------>

I just checked and on page 36 of the TDR Buyer's Guide, the 325hp/600ft/lb 2004. 5's and later were where the fan shroud started being bolted to the engine.
