Earlier this year I solicited help from teh members regarding solutions to keep my '89 cool. A member, (I am embarrassed to say that I forgot who it was), gave me copis of reprints of back articles which covered converting to a '93 model year radiator. I have just had a chance to finally put the system to the test in 4000 miles of towing and can heartily recommend it. This conversion was well worth the effort and expense. The temperature guage rarely moved one line above the middle!!! Thanks again to all who helped me with this!

Hey polarbear,

I sent out several e-mails on the upgrade as it appeared in an early issue of TDR. It could have been me. Glad to hear you did the upgrade and it does the job. If anyone else would like to see the info, send me an e-mail. I still have the scanned copies in my computer.

Yes, it was you, Bill!! Thank you very much for all of the info, I did not reply right after completeing the converson as I did not have an opportunity to test it. It is probably one of teh best modifications that I have made to this truck, and I recommend it highly. Now, why won't anyone offer suggestions to my other post? My truck still will not start!

I also performed this conversion before it was posted in the magazine. In conjunction with this mod. I installed the Corsair Fan Clutch, (later called Horton). The combination of these two seemed to handle cooling problems very nicely. John

The biggest, easiest and cheapest mod to improve cooling my early '91, was adding an internal baffle in the top tank of the radiator to distribute the hot water completely across the ENTIRE core, rather than allowing it to flow directly from the upper inlet down to the outlet as the stock setup does. Once you get the WHOLE core involved in the cooling, it makes a BIG difference in cooling ability!

Rodney,

I don't know. You would need to check part numbers.

I had a 92 and a friend had a 93 and they looked the same.
