I went out this morning to replace the antifreeze and hoses. I did OK till I got to the lower hose. I couldn't get the front clamp off. The overflow reservoir is in the way and I could not find a way to remove it. I t looks like it should oull straight up but it would not come off. How in the world does it come off? So far I got 5 gals. of anti-freeze out with the crazy radiator plug . First time in 5 years. What ever it means the color was still green.

Turbo Thom:

I know what you mean about that lower clamp! I had the same problem. I was going to replace the hose anyway, so i just cut the clamp and replaced it with a regular hose clamp and new hose.

TURBO THOM,

There is a "pin" on the reservoir bottle between the two tabs that attatch the reservoir to the black plastic fan shroud. The "pin" falls into a hole on the fan shroud. You can put a large screw driver or pry between the reservoir and shroud and gently pry out while pulling up on the reservoir.

I purchased a really trick tool from my Snap-On man made especially for this type of clamp removal. The tool is made by Mayhew and is cable operated via a hand held apparatus with a remote set of specialized jaws at the other end of the cable. The same company makes a substantially cheaper set however, they will not be able to access most of the clamps on our dodge. Additionally, the Mac tool man also carried the same tool on his truck.

PS: I favor the constant tension clamps over the worm clamps.

Ituffram:

Thanks. That pin is the thing. I wonder why it's used anyway.

John:

I'll get one as soon as I can stop a truck.

Thanks y'all.
