Recently the radio with CD & Cassette player in my 2002 2500 has started acting up. All 4 speakers on the right side quit working for a while & then will work fine for a while & then quit again. I pulled the radio out yesterday thinking that it might be a loose connection but everything seems ok. Being that it effects all the speakers on the right side makes me think that its the radio itself. Any thoughts????

Could actally be a short in the wire leading to a speaker. do you have the upgraded infinity system? if so the front door speakers have their own "built on amplifier" if not your head unit utilizes a built in amp whick operates left and right sides independently. the wires pass through, near and around a lot of exposed sheet metal from the dash to the door and to the rear. if anywhere along this path, a wire has contacted ground it will short out that whole side.

Yes it's the Infinity system. When I drove it yesterday I purposely looked for bumps in the road & it seems to act like it's a loose or shorting connection. Thanks for the info. I'll start looking at the wiring.

Found that if I wiggled the wiring conduit between the frame & right passenger door that I could make the right side speakers go on & off. So I removed the right door panel & speaker pulled back the rubber conduit & removed the electrical tape wrap from around the wires. I checked the wiring for splits/cracks but couldn't find any. I plugged the speaker back in, turned on the radio and the right side speakers are working now. Wiggled every wire in the bundle & could not get the speakers to stop working again. I put everything back together & as of yesterday the speakers are still working fine. There must be something loose somewhere in the door but I'll just have to wait until it quits working again.

Often the wire will break inside the insulation where it bends between the door and body you may not be able to see the break

Good point Kenny61.

My 96 radio has a mind of its own. Sometimes the volume knob will raise the volume when I turn it down and the preset station buttons will sometimes give me stations that are programed for others buttons. Truck only gets used about once every 10 days. Maybe corrosion?
