2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Radio Antenna Cable...

Is this a one-piece coaxial cable from the antenna mast base all the way to the back of the radio? Or... is it two cables that must plug together somewhere behind the dash?



The reason I'm asking is that I now have heat in the cab, and I had someone else R/R the heater core (for $200, that's a job I'd rather not do). There is good connection at the radio and at the antenna mast, but no radio tunes at all (CD and clock work fine). There might be a smaller wire in back of the radio that's shorting OR it may be time for a new radio/CD player. But I wanted to ask about the cable first. BTW, I did a search of the forums for "radio"; but none of the 326 hits had info about the cable. Thanks.

I may be wrong but I think there is another connection behind the glove box. Seems to me I read in my 01 service manual that it is actually a 3 pc cable. With one of the connections behind the glove box. Maybe it was just 3 connections-at the mast, the glove box area and the radio.

I also have a 95 and there is a connection (barrel) that ties the two coax lines together. It is behind the glove box. It is sometimes a source of reception problems even if it has not been messed with.

I have a '96 and have the same problem. I had a new radio installed (not because of no reception) and told my guy about it and he told me that the connection behind the kick panel had coome loose. he reconnected it but has since come back apart. let me know how it worked out for you.

Radio works great now. The cable was unplugged between the antenna and the radio. Here's what I did: push the glove box stop (on right side) out of the way and remove the stop cable (on the left side), tilt the glove box door down, then look for the co-ax cable connection that's wrapped in a sticky packaging material. That connection was NOT, so the radio worked after I reconnected here.
