:{ Well the stock radio gobbled a tape ane refuses to spit it out. Don,t laugh at least it,s not an 8 track. I hate tapes. Now the dumb question, Is there a plug and play radio with mp3 disc and wr capability, other than the stock chrysler? I picked up a clarion yesterday when I opened the package a bundle of wires was staring back at me. How niave of me to believe I had just bought a plug and play. I wouldn,t have a problem with a chrysler radio if it had all these features. suggestions and thanks.

There is an adapter harness available that is color coded to the aftermarket radio and plugs into the factory harness. I got mine at Wal-Mart, but most places that sell radios should be able to get one. Mine was a Scoche brand.

The wheels are ION brand, bought off E-bay. I had to drill out the holes to 21/32 to fit 5/8 studs. The seller came up with the lugnuts. No problems in 1 yr/ 20,000 mi. The wheels were originally designed for 9/16 studs.

If you order a stereo from http://www.crutchfield.com they will supply the wiring harness and mounting plate at no extra cost. Their prices are usually better than I can find the same models for locally, and you can sometimes get a package deal on the stereo and speakers that can't be beat. I've had great luck with their service, too. :)

Here is the radio that I like the best! it is am/fm, cassette,cd . It is stock chrysler... Beware ... this radio comes in several different mounting arrangements. . The one shown is correct for our trucks...

expect to pay between 150. 00 to 325. 00 for one ... They are kind of hard to find and everyone seems to know what they are worth... . I have one in all of my trucks... They fit like a glove. . ,No hack and wack necessary for installation

Anyone running a subwoofer in their extended cabs?? If so, what kind of box did you use or make? I'm thinking a single 10 or 12 would be just right for some much needed bass.

I got my truck with a DOA radio, I used a generic JVC CD deal with a wiring adaptor (no wiring hackie for me) and a mounting kit (got the mounting kit from best buy IIRC).
ESchoon: I have a pair of 8" truck boxes (I forget the brand) just bungied in there now but I was thinking of using an Infinity Basslink sub. My buddy has one in a GMC Typhoon and it sounds pretty good, esp for it`s size. I figure it would fit nicely in the little cubby area where the jump seats fold into.

I agree with several posts here. I have the factory radio (like mystryman's)from a later model in one of our 1992 service trucks. It plugs right in and looks like it belongs there. Nice sound and the cd does not skip like a lot of aftermarket ones do. I also have that same radio in my 1996 and 1998 trucks. My 2003 came with a KILLER sound system and a newer version of the Infinity cd/cassette.

As for Crutchfield, I ordered a MTX thunderform all in one subwoofer enclosure. It has 2 10" woofers and the amp built into a nice plastic composite box that fits perfect under the back seat of my '03. It sounds great to country, bluegrass or hip-hop. I would recommend this unit and Crutchfield. I think they have these available for older extra-cab trucks too. I have installed radios from them in the past in other vehicles and their kits are great, including all wiring harnesses where you don't have to cut your factory harness and detailed instructions specific for your vehicle. I still prefer the look, fit and quality of the factory radios best though.

radio replaced

Thanks for all the suggestions they were very helpful . Well, my adventure started with a clarion, removed it from its package and I knew immediately I would have a difficult time seeing and finding the buttons too confusing returned it ,the next was a pioneer removed and proceeded to install oops no side plate mounts the box had a slight tare in it and the mount package was gone. Returned said item. next a Blaupunkt it was complete and is now mounted. I liked the idea of replacing with the 2nd gen dodge unit but all the salvage yards are on the Mex. border and traffic is horid its about 30 mi,so uth of me. I just got tired of all the running . the new unit is very good. thanks again for the help.

I mounted a dual 8" box against the back wall & the jump seats are still functional after having moved them towards the front seat 1/2". There really is not a lot of room in back for boom. A company in Kent, Oh. SDK used to make a "transmission line " style box that holds a single 10" subwoofer. I will check and see if I can get the measurements for this box. Or give them a call yourself:

SDK Inc

Kent, OH 44240

A friend of mine has one in the back of his Jeep, 1000 watt amp & a 1200 watt dual voice coil subwoofer.

you could also replace the cavernous center console with a custom subwoofer cabinet if you don't want to give up any room in the back. I just use the back for storage though and was going to throw an extra 12" I had laying around back there.

I have one of those stock radios but pulled it to put a pioneer premeir deck in. Has an AUX jack on the back so I can plug my MP3 player directly into it.
