2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission radio quit

I last used my truck a month ago when I installed Santas towing mirrors that he got from Chrysler. They are the non powered ones and replaced my oem powered ones. When I used it today the radio wasn't working. The fuse is OK. I don't know if there is any connection to my disconnecting the power mirror and the radio not working??? Can't see how there would be one but it is the last thing that I worked on. Is there another inline fuse for the radio behind the dash?? Where else is there to look for a power failure.

Just guessing, but I bet when you disconnected the wiring harness it broke the electrical loop. You may have to jumper it and to do it, you would need the electical schematic.

I am not familiar with the 94 electricals, but the two events sound very un-related. Unless the now-disconnected power mirror harness got loose and shorted our some how. But if it's like the later models, the connector is attached to the door, so it really can't get loose.



There shouldn't be anything in-line fuse-wise. Everything is in the junction block on the driver side or under hood.

Well I just got back to looking at it and noticed that the interior light doesn't come on when you open the door and the under hood light isn't working either. Have checked all the fuses and the heavy ones under the hood and they all look good. I do have the manual however trying to make sense out of the schematics is difficult. There is power on both sides of the radio fuse. Just trying to fiqure out if that goes directly to the radio or through the ignition switch. I did have a problem last summer with the ignition wiring when the main power wire in the plug in harness that flexes when you tilt the steering column separated from it's connector. That caused the whole truck to shut down. Maybe another wire in that block has separated???

Your radio needs two powers. One (constant on) for keeping the memory preset, etc. and for main power. The second is to tell the radio that the ignition (whoops, I mean key switch) is on. Your radio fuse showing good tells me you've got the key switch part ok. The other stuff being out tells me the circuit that powers the lights, is also part of the one that powers the radio too.

It's fixed. I just have to learn to to be more patient and read the manual thoroughly. I found on page 8W-52 a nice fuse application chart that shows that fuse 17 controls the underhood lamp the POWER MIRROR SWITCH, THE RADIO choke and a few other functions. sure enough, on closer examination it was blown, no doubt when I was removing the oem mirrors. I also have to learn to disconnect the batteries when working on electrical applications. I do feel a little embarrassed. Thanks for your input.

Dads truck hit a bump in the road, and lost radio, dome light and underhood light on a 99.

SledPuller, did you check that #17 fuse anyway?? It affected more than just the power mirror controls.
