Raditor drain plug

O K so my Mom raised one dumb kid out of the bunch.

I am trying to change the antifreeze in my engine. On the bottom of the radiator on the drivers side there is a plastic drain valve. I put a hose on the drain nipple, opened the radiator cap and turned the valve 90 degrees to the left and expected the antifreeze to drain out but nothing comes out. The valve doesn't want to turn anymore and won't pull out. What am I missing??

Did you try taking off the radiator cap itself?

On my other Dodge trucks you have to unscrew it, it takes about 5 full turns. Be careful

You have to unscrew it while you also pull back with the pliers - the thread pitch is very coarse. If the drain has not been opened for a while, you may have to turn the valve open and closed a few times before it loosens enough to get it to screw all of the way out. Here is a photo of the valve all of the way open. #ad
Caution: If you unscrew the valve too far, it pops out and dumps antifreeze all over you. BTDT!

The drain valve stinks! I had no success opening mine. Fearful of breaking it and having a real problem I chose to take off the lower radiator hose.

Thanks for the help guys. I got the valve open with plyers and just kept turning it open and closed until it drained out. It was really in there tight and I thought it might break before it opened. I got jjust under 4 gallons of antifreeze out of it.
