it would help with diagnosis. if the rail pressure read low that would be a good sign that there is something wrong in the fuel system. also check your oil level mke sure it isnt rising on the dipstick.
Well, that would depend on what is stuck or messed up. If you have a hanging needle that doesn't seat correctly probably not. If you have one leaking excess fuel by into the return you might see some strange fluctuations but they would be pretty hard to tell from the normal. The FCA would try to compensate for a drop in pressure so unless you knew what the pressure was supposed to be in every situation it would be hard to tell if that was the problem. The rail gauge is a much better at diagnosing lack of fuel than it is slight fluctuations an injector issue would cause.
