I've been reading all these posts and there's lots of good ideas, but what I noticed was a lot of people mentioning the rear window as a possibility for the leak. tjlaffite's signature says he has a 99' . The 94-97's had rubber gasket rear windows (which leak) the 98 up trucks have a polyurethane glued in rear window, wich is intended to stop the leaking problem. R butts, you may have this problem, as I did with my 96 and my dad did with his 97.
It commonly comes from the two gutter/seams that run along your roof and into the top area of the rubber gasket on the rear window. From there it will run down the back wall to the floor and then along the side walls of the truck to the front passenger or driver floor area ( as was already mentioned by other members).
If you put some silicone along the top of the gutter where it meets the rubber gasket on the 94-97's you may solve your problem. As we accelerate, the torque will twist the truck body enough to brake the seal around the rear window with the rubber gasket and cause a leak.
In my dads truck we tried a 2001 rear window to see if it would fit ( thought the flange might have been changed when they changed the body style to the quad cab) Luckily the new style window fit. The new 98-up window looked better and stopped the water leak problem.
While the interior was out I tore the old, stinky felt off the bottom of the rubber backing uder the carpet and laid new ,thicker felt on the floor of the truck. It's cheap and you can find it at most auto glass or upholstery shops.
I also decided that while the interior was out ,I'd sound proof the interior. I used torch on roofing (unsanded), cut it into 6" wide strips, heated them up with a tiger torch and put 3 layers(1/8"each) on the floor, two layers on the walls and on the rear panel I put a 1" dense matress foam with contact cement on top of the torch on roofing.
The truck is very quiet (even with 5" exhaust) If you already have the interior out you might as well do this,if you have the time.
Sorry if I made this reply too long.
Garry.
