I've been reading all these posts and there's lots of good ideas, but what I noticed was a lot of people mentioning the rear window as a possibility for the leak. tjlaffite's signature says he has a 99' . The 94-97's had rubber gasket rear windows (which leak) the 98 up trucks have a polyurethane glued in rear window, wich is intended to stop the leaking problem. R butts, you may have this problem, as I did with my 96 and my dad did with his 97.

It commonly comes from the two gutter/seams that run along your roof and into the top area of the rubber gasket on the rear window. From there it will run down the back wall to the floor and then along the side walls of the truck to the front passenger or driver floor area ( as was already mentioned by other members).

If you put some silicone along the top of the gutter where it meets the rubber gasket on the 94-97's you may solve your problem. As we accelerate, the torque will twist the truck body enough to brake the seal around the rear window with the rubber gasket and cause a leak.

In my dads truck we tried a 2001 rear window to see if it would fit ( thought the flange might have been changed when they changed the body style to the quad cab) Luckily the new style window fit. The new 98-up window looked better and stopped the water leak problem.

While the interior was out I tore the old, stinky felt off the bottom of the rubber backing uder the carpet and laid new ,thicker felt on the floor of the truck. It's cheap and you can find it at most auto glass or upholstery shops.

I also decided that while the interior was out ,I'd sound proof the interior. I used torch on roofing (unsanded), cut it into 6" wide strips, heated them up with a tiger torch and put 3 layers(1/8"each) on the floor, two layers on the walls and on the rear panel I put a 1" dense matress foam with contact cement on top of the torch on roofing.

The truck is very quiet (even with 5" exhaust) If you already have the interior out you might as well do this,if you have the time.

Sorry if I made this reply too long.

Garry.

Well the leak is fixed. Thanks guys for the input and help. I believe it was the Cargo light & the passenger door panel combimed . Resealed every thing and no more water.

Thanks again, TJ

Well, I tried sealing the brake light, the rear window corner, and the side window of the extended cab... . went out of town for a week and came back to a wet truck again!

I was determined that I would find the leak this time so out came the passenger seat, rear seat and side panel of the extended cab. Finally I think I have found it!!! The pics in the album below show what I found. If you don't remove the plastic side panel, you would never see this. The plastic wraps aound behind the rear seat and hides this corner of the window seal. I also showed two pictures of the other side to illustrate this.

Notice the heater in the one photo, trying to dry the felt out... . 35 degree weather doesn't let it dry very fast without a little heat!

It's amazing how much the carpet and seats do for sound insulation... sounds like a different truck with them out!!

Now I just have to decide how I am going to seal the window up... I already tried some silicon at the top corner on the outside and that didn't do much. Anyone have any other ideas??

Well, I must say I'm glad to have found this post!

I've been trying to track down a similar leak on my son's quad cab for quite a few months now and was running out of options.

We took off the pax door panel and ran a hose outside, and sure enough you could see the water leaking past the bottom of the plastic wrap. I never would have guessed that!

Sealed it up, and it hasn't leaked for the past 5 days, so we're hoping that was it.

Thanks for the help!!
