What is the best way to raise the front end{more clearence between tire and fender} on a 91. 5, D350,CTD, 2 wheel drive, reg. cab, 5 sp. ,? I want to change to a 235/85/16, it has 225's on it now.

There are spring spreaders at parts stores. I don't know if there bad for the spring or not. I had them in my 89 CDT. It also came with 235's

You shouldn't have any trouble fitting 235/85s on your truck unless your springs are complete junk. I put my 265/75r16s on my dads 93 D350 single wheel with no trouble, they are tight, but no rub. His truck had 235/85s on it stock, and they fit better yet, they are slightly narrower.

If your springs are sagging, like most, and you still want a decent ride Moog makes a super duty spring for the front end of these trucks. I believe the 7226s that fits the 250's will work in there also. You might want to check with the supplier in case there is another number that is correct.

The MOOG 7226S is the front spring for both the 3/4 & 1-tons with CDT these are listed as HD. They also list a 5716 as HD and a 5716S as Super Duty. The only spring that makes note of the CDT is the 7226S.

The heavy truck dealership several miles away also performs work on pickup trucks such as springs/alignment and ball joints just to mane a few. I had new front springs installed last spring. No pun intended. When I told them what needed to be done they did not know what a 7226"S" is. They installed the 7226# and stated that is the only spring MOOG lists for the D250 with Cummins engine. I wasn't going to argue with them as they work with this stuff all the time and I don't. Along with that, my truck drove like it's riding on air bags and had no signs off odd-ball front tire wear. I didn't want to change that or compsomise the ride quality/handling in any way.

If you guys are having good luck with the 7226"S" I wish you well. I can't justify experimenting with front end parts I cannot easily swap out myself. An experimental turbo is a bit different than something that holds the truck together.

My MOOG 7226 picked the front end up enough that the wife has to lift herself up a bit more to climb in.

I believe the 7226S is a cross over spring that is listed under the CC and motor home applications. Some parts books don't list that spring as an option for the CTD trucks but if you look at the dimensions there are the same but with additional weight carrying capapbility. I went to a shop that specializes in suspension work and this is what he puts in every Dodge diesel application to keep the front end from sagging.

I am sure the stock springs will work but just not as long as the super duty ones. I gained almost 4" of height, the truck sits level, the suspension travel is more, and the ride is better than stock. There were no problems with initial alignment and it needs done again as the springs have sagged enough over the year they have been in. The only tire wear problem I have is the rears tend to wear the centers out faster than the outsides but that is a problem with my right foot.

7226...

Well you guys had me going, and I went out to get these new springs - the super heavy duty 7226S. Well the parts place ordered them for me and the box said #7226... what gives? The part was special order and is not returnable. Maybe I will just install these because I would rather just have an inch or so as to not have my truck looking like an airliner on takeoff whenever I'm carrying a load, or towing :-laf ... Or maybe I'll go get some cheap spring speaders to stick in there and put the 7226 in the classifieds, or better yet, the pay it forward... let's see if that stirs up any interest??

I would take them back & tell the parts house "you special ordered or received the wrong part" how about fixing this? And see what they can do. :)

good idea paycheck... a no brainer at that, but it did take a bit of convincing that the "s" really did matter. Anyway, the new 7226S are coming in this afternoon.

"No,no that S was an extra one I had laying around & I didn't know what to do with it. So I put it on the special order form, just to see what would happen" :) :-{} :D
